Staying Up When Times Are Down

Dear Power Writers,

I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that Christian writers are going through some very tough times in their personal lives. Of course, that shouldn’t surprise us, should it? Yet the number of prayer requests, particularly regarding quite serious issues of health, relationships, and finances, has soared. So what are we to do?

The same thing we always do: keep our eyes focused on Jesus.

At times, however, especially when the pressures of life all but crush us, we tend to focus on our circumstances and not on the God of our circumstances. This is what gets us into trouble.

You see, there is a psychological principle that states that whatever we focus on will grow. So if we’re focusing on our problems, they will grow in our minds. But if we focus on Jesus, He will grow in our minds and become bigger than our problems.

Satan will do whatever he can to keep our eyes off of Jesus and on our problems. If you’re like me, you’ve fallen into this trap many times. That’s the reason we need to keep alert, as Scripture warns us in I Peter 5: 8:

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

My favorite word in that Scripture verse is “like”. Satan isn’t really a roaring lion; he just acts like one. Jesus is the roaring lion, the lion of Judah! Hallelujah! 🙂

So when the devil tries to deceive us and knock us down, let’s start roaring with Jesus. Let’s send the devil packing by using the Word of God, the Sword of the Spirit. Let’s begin to see ourselves like the spiritual giants we truly are, not like the grasshoppers the devil would like us to think we are.

Blessings,

MaryAnn

Thank you, MaryAnn, for spreading sunshine and dispersing the gloom! 🙂 It’s amazing how one little word can give us positive reflection. Sometimes I too often concentrate on Satan as actually being a roaring lion instead of just acting “like” one. Can’t you just see Satan’s hasty retreat when we hide in the roar of the Almighty Lion of Judah? 🙂 In His roar, our roars will strengthen as we fight against that weakling Satan. 🙂

    ROARING through JESUS,
    Trudy

I like that. It’s true! And we have to remember it. The best part is that we don’t have to do it alone ~ we can rely on God’s strength to help us.

  3. Hi MaryAnn –

Sometimes we fool ourselves into thinking if we concentrate on the problem, we can solve it. The best way to solve a problem is to first bring it to the Lord and seek His wisdom.

    Blessings,
    Susan 🙂

  4. This is a perfect Word at God’s perfect time. I have, indeed, been seeking God through His Word more than ever before; and yet it is still so easy to fall back into focusing on fear of the unknown. Let’s all pray for wisdom and courage to face our circumstances knowing God has already claimed the victory! Halleluia!
