Are You Writing in Vain?

Dear Power Writer,

Are you building a house God never asked you to build? In writers’ talk, that means are you writing something God never asked you to write? If so, you are writing in vain.

Too often, we writers decide on what we want to write and then, as an afterthought, we ask God to bless what we’ve decided to write or what we have already written. This is putting the cart before the horse and will bring us nothing but frustration.

Psalm 127:1 makes it clear that “Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain.”

Are you laboring in vain? Examine your heart. Ask yourself if you consulted God before beginning your current writing project. If you did not, you need to retrace your steps.

Remember: only what is ordained by God will prosper. All else is “sinking sand”.

Blessings,

MaryAnn

  1. Hi MaryAnn –

Thank you for the reminder. Sometimes we get side tracked by a tempting offer or opportunity.

When times are tough financially, it’s easy to look only at the money angle or getting published. We end up writing things which are devoid of life.

    Thanks again.

    Blessings,
    Susan 🙂

  2. MaryAnn, And isn’t it easy to convince ourself that we are doing God’s work? I continually remind myself that God is in control and already has plans for me. Thank you for reminding me. Clella

  3. Dear MaryAnn,

Sometimes I think I’ve let fear keep me from grasping opportunities that may have been God’s will for my writing.

I am asking God right now to remove any vestige of fear that is holding me away from his perfect will.

    Hugs and Sparkles,
    Vie

  4. Love your picture, Vie! Snoopy has always been my favorite.

Another thing to remember is that just because something we feel led by God to write isn’t published right away, that doesn’t mean we haven’t heard from Him.
