The Power of a Name

This month marks five years that our blog has been running. We started out as Musings That Matter, a name that served us well until I had to switch to a blog server. Then, to my surprise, I learned that our name had already been taken. So I prayed and our Lord gave me “The Write Power”.

There’s a lot to a name. The reason is that, according to Scripture, we bring into existence what we speak (Mark 11:23-24). When God changed Abram’s name to “Abraham”, God wanted to speak into existence that he would be the “father of many nations”. And so he became.

Our blog name has a two-fold meaning:

1) God has given us the power to write;

2) That power is “right” in that it comes from God.

As we ponder the meaning of our blog name, let’s look to our heavenly Father to give us the power we need to create words of power for the building of His Kingdom.

  1. You’re so right. I always wondered at Romeo’s line about “a rose by any other name…” and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Some cultures place great importance on names and how they affect our development. Poor Jabez (Pain) always comes to mind.
    And would Abraham have been the father of many nations if he’d remained Abram, a father? Of course, he could have been, but God’s bestowing of a new name on him was symbolic of the change to come in his life.

    With the exception of writers, actors, and some musicians, few in our culture ever change our names, or even realize that our names come with a meaning. How many people named Joshua realize that it is the same as Yeshua, or Jesus, a name that means salvation?

    I was sorry to see “Musings that Matter” go, but I truly believe the Lord gave you “The Write Power.” There should be power in our words, and that power should come from God. May He always give you everything you need!

  2. I confess, I am organized to a fault so I couldn’t conceive of one blog for my interests.

  3. For awhile, I couldn’t get past the title field on Blogger. What stuck in my heart and mind was, “Christian Writer/Reader Connection.”

    I want my blog to be a place where believers from various denominations can get to know each other, share their love of Jesus Christ, and grow as writers.

    Susan 🙂
