Dear Power Writers,
Your best writing will come from your heart. By “heart” I mean the core of your deepest convictions. When you write from your deepest convictions, your writing will ring true. In other words, it will be credible.
But to write from your deepest convictions, you must know what they are. To do so, ask yourself the following two questions:
1) What am I willing to die for?
2) What am I willing to live for?
Your answers to these questions will help you to discover what you really believe in.
Blessings,
MaryAnn
How interesting. I’ll have to ponder this.

Great questions. This really gets to the foundation of who a person is. Thanks for the challenge.

I am reminded of the scene in the movie “Finding Forrester”. Sean Connery (William Forrester, the writer)) and his young black male protege are facing each other and Connery is typing away and the young man asks: “What are you doing?” Connery answers:
“I’m writing. You write your first draft with your heart: and you rewrite with your head. The first key to writing is to write, not to think.”

I love the quote you sent, Jim, about writing the first draft with your heart and the second with your head. Very memorably put! Thanks!

Two simple questions. The answers however, can be difficult to pinpoint if we fear being true to ourselves and our convictions.
