While many during the Great Depression allowed themselves to sink into despair, a few chose to view their adversity as an opportunity to create something new. These few ended up becoming very wealthy. Why? Were they more talented? More hard-working? More fortunate?
No, the truth is that they were more positive in their outlook.
You see, attitude is everything when it comes to success. We are now facing a serious recession that many economists think will devolve into another great depression. But we who know Christ have nothing to fear. Why not?
1) Christ lives in us, and He, not our writing, is our Source of financial provision.
2) God has promised to give His children witty inventions, creative ideas, new ways of seeing and doing things.
3) As we look to God, He will open doors that we never knew existed. He will make a way where there seems to be no way. He will create a new source of revenue out of nothing if He has to, just because He loves us.
God recently did this for me. Due to the economy, I lost two of my biggest writing clients. Instead of fretting, I thanked the Lord and rejoiced in the midst of the situation. Instantly, God spoke to my spirit. “Start a résumé business.” So I did. Within a short time, I had four clients and just picked up a fifth.
You see, God knows that résumés are in great demand because people are losing their jobs and need new ones. So He gave me an idea. Usually that’s how God provides for us – through ideas. So pay attention to your ideas. They may contain a gold mine. 🙂
Thank you for posting this. My husband owns his own business and hasn’t taken a pay check for almost 2 years. That coupled with health problems and the political landscape has had me living in fear. I needed this gentle reminder to put me back on track.

Yes, Mary Ann … we must never get ourselves so stuck with what we’re doing that we can’t see what else is out there. God is always faithful!

Thanks so much for this timely reminder, MaryAnn, that God will make a way when there seems to be no way. It’s so sad how the economy is going, and all of us are feeling its effects one way or another.
Just before I read your post today, I read on someone’s June 2 post on Twitter that Today’s Christian Woman is closing down. Deeply troubled, I called Christianity Today and found it is true. I’m so sad I want to cry. This magazine has often spoken to my heart. But I’m trying to think positive! God is forever available and His Word will never close down!
