The Western Christian (meaning those living in the western hemisphere) has been raised in an environment of rationalism, humanism, and scientific thinking. The Eastern Christian (meaning those living in the Middle East and parts of the Far East), however, has been raised in an environment more open to the spirit realm, particularly in the form of dreams and visions.
In Acts 2:17-18, the Word of God states: “‘And it shall come to pass in the last days,’ says God, ‘That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.'”
Have you done any prophesying lately? Have you dreamed any dreams or seen any visions? If not, why not?
One reason I would propose is that you may be a victim of the god of rationalism. If you have been educated in the secular school system of the western world, then very likely you have fallen victim to this god. The god of rationalism says that if you can’t explain it with your reason or with science, then it’s not true.
The western Church is guilty of this as well. Whereas the early Church was open to manifestations of the spirit realm – like dreams and visions – the western Church today, for the most part, either renounces such manifestations as demonic, denies their existence altogether, or relegates them to third world countries where ignorance supposedly runs rampant.
What does all of this have to do with our writing? A lot, because often God will give us ideas through dreams and visions. He will also give us solutions to plot problems or article structure problems through a word of knowledge or a prophetic word. God will also speak to us through dreams and visions regarding the direction of our writing and a host of other things as well.
So if you have not yet experienced the truth of what God spoke in Acts 2:17-18, ask God to teach you. If you’re hesitant because you think this smacks of New Age philosophy, remember that in order for there to be a counterfeit , there first has to be the real thing. Acts 2:17-18 is the real thing!
As you stay focused on Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, He will keep you from deception. As you invite the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you, He will lead you into all truth (John 16:13).
And that will be good for your writing! 🙂
