Color Me Classic

I’ve always been a classic sort of person. You’ll find me purchasing clothing that transcends fads and looks stylish yesterday, today, and tomorrow. You know – classic suits, blouses, and even shoes – although shoes are more likely to date themselves. 🙂

Writing can be classic as well. In fact, we speak of the classics when we refer to literature that transcends the generations and is as fresh today as when it was first written. That’s the kind of writing I want to create. Writing that is as meaningful today as it will be generations from now.

What about you? Are you a classic-minded writer? Remember, it doesn’t have to do with your writing style, but with your writing content.

And you can even wear jeans while you write. Now that’s the ultimate in classic. 🙂

  1. I’m writing fantasy … complete with fairies and dwarves and other groups of people I’ve created. Not really classic, when you think about it. But I believe my theme is classic: self sacrifice.

When I think of my favorite fantasy novels, such as The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien or The Elfstones of Shannara by Terry Brooks, these have the same theme. LOTR was published in the 60s and Elstones in the 80s. Both are still in print!

Something about a classic theme resonates with readers, no matter the genre.
