Question to My Readers

As the new year approaches, I will be focusing my blog on the topic of writing fiction. We will address the art, the craft, and the business of writing fiction. If you have any specific questions, please let me know.

Thanks and Blessings,

MaryAnn

  1. I want to know why adverbs are considered anathema. I understand that you want to find a strong, descriptive verb whenever possible, but sometimes there just isn’t a word that conveys exactly what I want to say. So why can’t I use an adverb, instead of torturing a sentence to use a verb that doesn’t really mean what I want it to?

    • Christine, you ask a good question. Adverbs are not totally anathema. There are times when an adverb is warranted. It’s the overuse of adverbs that weakens writing. Like anything else, let adverbs be done in moderation.:)
