Today I’m going to forego our discussion on a business aspect of writing in order to post my recent interview with author and businessman, Mr. Stan Huberfeld.  Stan has been in the printing business for many years and is a member of the Kingdom Chamber of Commerce to which I also belong.

MARYANN:
Hello, Stan. Welcome to The Write Power. It’s great to have you with us today. 🙂

STAN:
Thank you for opening up this opportunity to share a glimpse of just how much God loves each one of us.

MARYANN:
You’re right about that. 🙂 Stan, please tell us a little about yourself as a person and as a writer.

STAN:
I am 65 years of age and became a believer at age 37. I am Jewish, a sports enthusiast and participant my entire life, currently a soccer ref ( schools and club ). I am a graduate of Drexel, served in the U.S. Army and worked the majority of my career in the printing business. God has delivered me from drug addiction, alcoholism, gambling and many inappropriate social behaviors.

About 5 years ago the Lord placed on my heart that I needed to write a book of His faithfulness in my life. This meant simply sharing some of the stories I walked through, with Him at my side. At first I resisted doing this because of being unqualified and way too busy. Praise God, He did not take no for an answer. You see at times, I can be a little thick.

MARYANN:
I think we all can, Stan. 🙂  I recently read your anointed book entitled Walking with God. Please share with us how this book came about and why you wrote it.

STAN:
The first objection I threw up to God was when would I write this book, since I was already very busy. He instructed me to get up early. I already get up at 5:30 AM. So He said, get up earlier. Walking with God was basically written between 2:00 – 5:00 AM, 2 to 3 days a week until completed.

The bottom line of why I wrote it was OBEDIENCE. Like numerous characters in the Bible, I really did try to say no. However, His ways are better than my ways, and it is so much easier to obey and less painful to allow Him to reign in each page of life. Thy will be done says it all.

MARYANN:
Indeed, it does! One of your chapters is entitled Accountability. Why is accountability so important to the follower of Christ? How should one choose an accountability partner or team?

STAN:
Applying the Word of God is a MUST. Head knowledge by itself is useless and only puffs you up. Because my heart is so wicked and I am so very good at deceiving myself, accountability is a MUST. If you are married , God has already given you one of your accountability resources. A prayer partner is another resource. You cannot be too careful in selecting this person. Do NOT assume because of a title or number of years as a Christian, a given person is obviously a good fit. Pray, Pray and Pray some more. When you start the accountability relationship, go slowly and test the waters. The by-product of this kind of relationship should produce a more consistent Kingdom focus and application in your life, not a longer wish/prayer list.

MARYANN:
Excellent points! You emphasize the critical importance of obedience in the believer’s life. How has your obedience caused you to receive God’s blessings?

STAN:
God spells love “OBEDIENCE”. It is through obedience to the Holy Spirit and applying the Word of God in my life that Kingdom fruit is yielded. Abide in Him and you will bear much fruit. Apart from Christ I can do nothing for the Kingdom. Apart from Jesus, I can look the part, have lots of programs and fully experience burn-out.

MARYANN:

That is so true. As Scripture says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.” In one chapter of your book, you present four guidelines for hearing God’s voice. Would you kindly expound on each one?

STAN:

Is God really your best friend ? Please answer that question in your own heart. If the answer is yes, then the rest makes a lot of sense and actually does work when you do it. This is NOT a formula.

Spend time with God. Be in His Word personally and corporately. Understand that you are incapable of applying His Word consistently in your life without the help of the Holy Spirit. “Hang out” with Him. Go to a quiet place, walk and talk with Him, just as Jesus did on a regular basis with our Heavenly Father. God is sufficiently omnipotent to place His thoughts in your mind and on your heart. His Spirit will always be in line with His Word. When I experience peace in my heart that means yes and uneasiness means no or wait ( wrong time). Pray without ceasing means communion with God as I actively and fully live life. Take every thought captive means run it by Him before I speak or act.

BEWARE: I have a spiritual adversary. Do NOT lean on my own understanding as I am so apt to do. Other people (even well meaning Christians) will try to direct my path.

MARYANN:
What are the key points you want your reader to glean from reading your book?

STAN:
God is exactly who He says He is. Jesus is Lord of ALL. God really does want to have on-going intimate fellowship with you. That means one breath at a time, 24/7. His ways really are better than my ways. Get used to the fact that His thoughts are different and better than my thoughts. When I am obedient, it is a win–win scenario. When I am truly abiding in Him, ALL things are possible. Coloring outside the lines we perceive is what He does. He LOVES you sooo much. If He gave His Son for you, then what else would He withhold?

MARYANN:
I especially enjoyed your chapter entitled Coloring outside the Lines. Please elaborate on this concept.

STAN:
If God had a business card, I think His marketing tag line would read, “ We specialize in coloring outside the lines.“  We all have stories like this in our lives. Unfortunately, we also have stories where He availed His love to us and we said no, because of heart-sin issues as noted two questions ago.

Coloring outside the lines is a story where all I did was show up and God did the rest. He has a plan for good and not for evil. He really does love you with an everlasting and perfect love. That is coloring outside the lines.

MARYANN:
You are Jewish by birth. How did you come to know Yeshua as your Messiah?

STAN:
I had a customer who went out of his way to love me right where I was in life. He shared things of God with me in small doses. These were never condemning or demanding of me. After a few years, he died unexpectedly. God used his love for me in combination with his funeral to catapult me towards reading the Bible, and a couple of years later opening the door to my heart to accept Jesus as my Lord, Savior, and Best Friend.

MARYANN:
What would you suggest to Christians who wish to share the Gospel with Jews?

STAN:
Love them right where they are. Each person is a unique and beautifully made individual. Most Jews do not know or even care about the Old Testament. Pray, pray and pray some more. Be ready to be used by God (coloring outside the lines of your preconceived ideas).

MARYANN:
Do you have other books and/or are you planning on more book projects?

STAN:
Yes, I have written a book just to the Church for the days we live in. It is 2 Chronicles 7:14 – Revival.  I also have a speaking ministry for any church, retreat, breakfast, or special occasion. It is called 1 Thessalonians 3:2.

MARYANN:
