Wednesday Wisdom (Business): Selling Your E-Book

E-books seem to be the rage these days. Every time I turn around, someone is offering an e-book for sale. Many are offering their e-books for free. While I have yet to learn whether free giveaways turn into later sales, I do know that selling your e-book requires effort and a well-thought-out strategy.

I have two e-books currently available for sale: You Were Made for Greatness and The ABCs of TopNotch Writing. Here are strategies I have used with success to sell my e-books: 

• Choose a title that will attract attention. Titles serve as hooks to capture your reader’s interest. Choose a title that infers that your reader will derive a personal benefit from your book.

• Choose a cover that will attract attention. Although we should not judge a book by its cover, the truth is that we often do. Like its title, your book’s cover must capture your reader’s interest and invite him to consider buying the book.

• Choose a marketing strategy that will target your primary audience of potential readers. It makes no sense to market your book to an audience that has no interest in it. When choosing your target audience, be as specific as possible. If you have a niche market for your book, focus on that niche market. Many authors have made significant sales selling to niche markets.
