One of the most challenging aspects of the writing profession is the timing of writing success. If you’re like me, you want to see results yesterday. But God has a timing for your writing career, and that timing depends on numerous factors. Here are some of them:
1) Your growth in Christ. God is more interested in your becoming like Jesus than in your writing success. If an early success would keep you from becoming like Christ, then God will stop or slow down an early success.
2) Your obedience to God’s instructions. While you may want to write poetry, God may want you to write non-fiction first. If you continue to write poetry in defiance of God’s specific instructions, you will find that the timing of your writing success will be postponed until you obey.
3) Your readiness for success. We would not give our children the car keys until they are ready to drive. Nor does God give us the writing success keys until we are ready to handle them with wisdom.
Have there been times in your writing life when you have questioned God’s timing in your writing life? If so, what have you learned?
