Recently, the number of my Twitter followers was one short of 500. I began to grow excited about reaching the 500 mark. When I received an email notice of a new follower, I went to my Twitter account certain of seeing the number 500. To my surprise, it read 498. While I had gained one follower, I had lost two.
Immediately, I thanked the Lord for humbling me. Better to be disciplined by my loving Heavenly Father before pride takes over than to fall flat on my face.
Holy Spirit began to minister to me. “It’s all about impact, dear one, not numbers.”
Impact, not numbers. Far better to touch one life who needs touching than 500 who don’t.
Yet, how does a writer measure the impact of her words?
That is something we writers will know only on the other side of this life. But that one impacted life knows. And so does God.
And that’s all that matters.
