The Hardened Heart

Do you have a hardened heart? A hardened heart is one of the many “heart conditions” spoken of in the Bible.

What is a hardened heart?  You may be surprised, as I was, by the following characteristics of a hardened heart:

—A hardened heart is surprised when miracles occur. When the supernatural surprises us, it means that we are more in tune with the natural world than with the supernatural world. This reflects a hardened heart.

A hardened heart has difficulty seeing and perceiving the things of God. In Mark 8:17-18, we read these words of Jesus: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened?  Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember?”

—A hardened heart focuses on the temporal instead of the eternal. When our hearts are hardened, we ascribe more weight to what we see than to the truth of God’s Word.

So, is your heart hardened? If so, there is hope. You can make your heart tender by doing the following:

—Monitor your thoughts. Thoughts lead to actions. If you think before you act, you will more readily obey God’s Word instead of your flesh.

—Expect miracles to occur in your life. Remember: you are a supernatural being living in a natural body. As a born-again believer, your modus operandi is the spirit realm, aka God’s Kingdom.

—Put God’s Word above circumstances. When the two disagree, always choose God’s Word. It alone is the Truth.
