“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
You have a purpose! A very important purpose. And don’t let any devil of hell tell you differently!
Have you ever wondered why you–and so many people under the age of 60–think they do not have a purpose? I believe that the teaching of the theory of evolution in our public schools is largely to blame.
The theory of evolution began to take ground in this country shortly after the Scopes Trial in Tennessee in 1925. But it wasn’t until the sixties that evolution became the teaching of scientific record in our public schools.
During the sixties, Russia launched the first satellite named Sputnik. That launch put the United States on high alert that we might be falling behind other countries in the area of science. As a result, The National Science Foundation took it upon itself to promote the Biological Sciences Curriculum Study which did much to insert the theory of evolution into high school biology textbooks. In the sixties, evolution became the scientific theory of choice to explain the origins of man.
It was at this same time that prayer was removed from our public schools, SAT scores began to plummet, and out-of-wedlock pregnancies began to skyrocket. It was also at this time that self-esteem philosophies were put in place to counteract the growing lack of confidence among students.
No wonder! Evolution teaches that we were not created initially and directly as human beings but that we evolved from monkeys. Consider this: if you think you came from a monkey, how would you view yourself? Probably as little more than an animal. While animals are wonderful creatures created by God, they are, nonetheless, animals. They cannot speak; they cannot reason; they cannot solve complex problems; they cannot understand what it means to have a purpose.
If you think you evolved from a monkey, you will fail to respect the image of God that is in you. Monkeys were not created in the image of God. Man alone was created in the image of God, and it is that image that gives you utmost value and worth.
When God created you, He did so intentionally and for a specific purpose. You are not a random idea that just burst upon the scene. You were designed by God to fulfill a purpose that only you can fulfill. No one else in all of human history has your make-up. There never was a you before you, nor will there be a you after you. You are the only you there will ever be!
So, you may be asking, “What is my purpose?” Great question! Your purpose first and foremost is to discover your purpose. How do you do that? By studying the Bible, the Word of God. In there He tells you that you were made to know Him and to have a relationship with Him. Out of that knowledge and out of that relationship will flow the specific work you are to do while you are on this earth.
The next time Satan tells you you have no purpose, tell him he is a liar. Then make it your goal to know Jesus. In knowing Him, you will discover who you are and why you are here.
