Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
What a strange question! At least, it seems strange at first glance. Yet, the truth is that many people are afraid of success. Are you one of them? How can you tell?
Here are a few clues:
1-Fear of disaapointment. Are you afraid of getting your hopes up? When things are going well, are you afraid they will take a nose-dive? If so, you are afraid of success.
2-Verbal curses. Do the negative words of authority figures from your past continue to torment you and keep you from trying? Words like, You’ll never amount to anything!; You’ll end up in jail; You’re stupid? If so, you are afraid of success.
3-Fear of vulnerability. Are you worried that being successful means losing your privacy? Are you afraid that if people get to know you, they will not like you? Or, worse yet, they will discover that you are a flawed human being? If so, you are afraid of success.
4-Misunderstanding of God’s character. Do you believe that God is against success and considers it morally wrong? Do you believe that only the wicked succeed? Are you convinced that God’s command to be humble means to be poor, defeated, and down-trodden? If so, you are afraid of success.
The fear of success has many faces, but all of them are masks. Find out which one you’re wearing, and remove it. When you do, you will see that, just as an earthly father wants his children to succeed, even more so does your Heavenly Father want you to succeed–for His glory and for the building of His Kingdom.
