ARE YOU CURSED WITH THE BASTARD CURSE?

by Dr. MaryAnn Diorio, Your Virtual Life Coach

Guard your heart above all else,
for it determines the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4: 23

PLEASE NOTE: There has been some misunderstanding regarding my position on curses. I wish to make clear that when one comes to Christ, one is set free from every curse. Galatians 3: 13 tells us that Jesus became a curse so that we would be free from the curse. When we are born again, we receive a new spirit. But our soul (mind, will, and emotions) and our body are not yet saved. Our soul and our body must be sanctified (made holy) as the come into alignment with our spirit. The Bible refers to this transformation process in Romans 12: 1-1. When a person is troubled in his soul by the effects of sin, this condition can be healed by obedience to God’s Word and through prayer and ministry.

Bastard!  Despite the way the word is sadly and indiscriminately used today to demean a person, the word “bastard” in its original definition denotes a person who has been conceived out of wedlock.

more commonly used word in our day is illegitimate. An illegitimate child is a child whose parents conceived him outside of marriage. Even if the parents married before the child was born, the child is still illegitimate according to the Word of God.

Contrary to popular belief, to conceive a child out of wedlock and then to marry before or after the birth of the child does not spiritually “legitimize” the child nor protect him from the bastard curse. The reason is that a child conceived out of wedlock is the fruit of the parents’ fornication or adultery at the time of conception. And, according to Scripture, when a child is conceived through fornication or adultery, that child is under the bastard curse.

The bastard curse also applies to cases of rape and incest. A child born as a result of rape or incest is also considered illegitimate. In short, according to God’s Word any child conceived outside of the confines of the marriage covenant is a bastard.

WHAT IS THE BASTARD CURSE?
So, what exactly is the bastard curse and what are its effects?

The bastard curse is the curse that comes upon both the man and the woman who engaged in premarital or extramarital sex (fornication or adultery) and conceived a child out of wedlock, and also upon the child they conceived. Moreover, according to Scripture, the bastard curse lasts for ten generations unless one is delivered from it by the power and blood of Christ.

Also, if a woman aborts a child conceived out of wedlock, the abortion does not set the parents or the aborted child free from the bastard curse. Of course, the child is no longer alive, but the parents of the child are still under the bastard curse and can pass it on to future children, including those conceived in marriage. Even if the parents have repented of the sin of abortion, they must still repent of allowing the bastard curse into their lives through fornication or adultery and remove the curse from themselves.

It greatly behooves us, therefore, to understand this curse, its effects on our lives, and how to break its power over our lives.

UNDERSTANDING THE BASTARD CURSE
In calculating the ten generations of the curse, the parents of the illegitimate child are considered the first generation of the curse. The illegitimate child is considered the second generation of the curse. And so on down the line until the tenth generation is reached.

Two passages in Scripture deal with the bastard curse: Deuteronomy 23: 2 and Hebrews 12: 6.

Deuteronomy 23: 2 – “A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the Lord. An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD….”

Hebrews 12: 6: – “For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”

In the first passage from Deuteronomy, God decrees that the bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord for ten generations. He includes as bastards the Ammonites and the Moabites. You may recall that these two nations resulted from the incestuous relationships of Lot’s daughters with their father (Genesis 19: 30-38).

In the second passage from Hebrews, the Lord makes clear that He disciplines only those whom He accepts as His legitimate children. Bastards who have not been delivered from the bastard curse are not accepted as legitimate children of God.

EFFECTS OF THE BASTARD CURSE
The bastard curse causes many spiritual, emotional, and psychological issues. Chief among them are the following:

–Shame
–Guilt
–Abandonment Issues
–Fear
–Rejection
–Self-hatred
–Double-mindedness
–Feelings of not fitting in
–Difficulty establishing and maintaining intimate relationships

The bastard curse keeps people from fellowship with God and with other people. Satan continually tempts people to fall prey to this curse so that it will continue from generation to generation.

In addition to Lot’s daughters who gave birth to the Ammonites and Moabites via their incestuous relationship with their father, there are other instances of the bastard curse in the Bible. Here are three more of them:

–Hagar’s conception of Ishmael by Abraham (Genesis 16: 11-12). The descendants of Ishmael are still under the bastard curse.

–Tamar’s conception of Pharaz and Zarah by her father-in-law Judah (Genesis 38: 1-30).

–Bathsheba’s conception of Solomon by David.

“A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to his tenth generation
shall he not enter into the congregation of the Lord.” – Deuteronomy 23: 2

HOW TO BE SET FREE FROM THE BASTARD CURSE
The bastard curse is a powerful curse in that it causes corruption that lasts for generations. This curse is a key means by which Satan has tried to corrupt bloodlines. He particularly attempted to use the bastard curse to corrupt the bloodline from which Christ would be born. But Satan’s plan never transpired because he did not know that Jesus would descend only from the woman’s seed and not from a human father’s seed.

I would venture to say that few, if any, of us have escaped the bastard curse. If one considers the history of the world, it is easy to see that marauding nations engaged in the rape of countless women, and those rapes resulted in the conception of many bastard children. In addition, as long as people have been on earth, many have committed fornication and adultery resulting in conception.

Years ago, while discussing my family history with my father, I learned that my great-grandfather was quite likely conceived as a result of the rape of my great-great-grandmother by either a ruthless landowner or by a priest.  Such situations, unfortunately, were commonplace in the Sicilian culture of the time, due to the feudal-type society where landowners and others of the ruling class exploited the peasants.

My heroine in my novel, The Madonna of Pisano, the first book in my trilogy titled The Italian Chronicles, is based on my great-great-grandmother’s life. Holy Spirit showed me that she was an innocent victim and that He wanted me to exonerate her good name in my story. While the story is fictional, the seed idea for it came from my great-great-grandmother’s experience.

Since I am the fifth generation from my great-great-grandmother and the man who violated her, I have had to break the bastard curse over my own life so that it would not be passed on and continue in the lives of my descendants.

If you know that the bastard curse is on your life–either because of your own sin or the sin of your ancestors–pray this prayer of deliverance with me now:

Father God, I come to You in the mighty and matchless Name of Jesus. I repent of any and all sinful behavior in my own life and/or in the lives of my ancestors for the past ten generations that opened the door to the bastard curse in my life and in the lives of my descendants. In the Name of Jesus, I place those sins under the Blood of Christ shed at Calvary. I ask, Father, that You would forgive and cleanse me and my lineage of this destructive curse. I thank You, Father, that I can now come freely into the congregation of the Lord and have close fellowship with You and with my brothers and sisters in Christ. I thank You, Father, that You now consider me Your legitimate child worthy of your discipline. I ask, Father, that You would help me to overcome the negative habits that may have embedded themselves in my soul as a result of living under this horrific curse. I thank You and praise You in the Name of Jesus for delivering me and my descendants of the bastard curse. I thank You, Holy Spirit, for filling my life with the blessings of Your fellowship and the fellowship of the saints. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer, please let me know. You will experience a dramatic change in your life as the bastard curse is removed from your life and from the lives of your descendants.

  1. Over a long period of time, my life has been a roller coaster from end to end.

Now that I have prayed this prayer I believe that the curse is removed.

    • God’s mercy is greater than any of our sins! Be encouraged that He loves us and delights in our repentance! Yes, I will pray for you and your precious family. God bless you, too!

  2. So very grateful for this scriptural insight and prayer! I have aborted children, and as a result, have a hard time relating to children. I have prayed this prayer as a last step in renouncing many other things. I was still in bondage in this area. I see this curse operating in my niece and her children. I believe that great freedom and healing will result. Thank you so much! God’s richest blessings to you and your ministry.

    • Dear Leslie,

Thank you so very much for your valued comment. I know it took a lot of courage to post.

I praise God for what He has done and continues to do in your life. You have taken the first step to repent. The Lord has washed you clean. Now I will pray that our Lord will completely heal your soul from the trauma, grief, and anguish of abortion. Although this may seem far-fetched to you at the moment, I believe that God is going to use you in a special way to bring His life to little children. Here is a Scripture verse I believe the Lord wants me to give you: “Your shame and disgrace are ended” (Isaiah 61: 7 GNT). Blessings to you!

  3. Unbelievably sad. PRACTICALLY EVERY website refers to same same Scriptures. They’re all found in the Torah. Abraham, Ismael, 10th generation, blahblahblah.
Jesus fulfilled the Mosaic Law (He didn’t abolish it but fulfilled it.)
It would be much more prudent to tell people his or her need for salvation versus some Judaism thing. Forever’s a long time.
It’s not only this website but many others. They all beg the same question of wondering how many people have had faith in Christ needlessly shipwrecked over both the almighty dollar as well as the Mosaic Law.
It has nothing to do with “breaking some Old Testament curse which Jesus already took care of”. Jesus IS Savior for a reason…and it’s not just sin and forgiveness. Rather, it’s for 100% of EVERYTHING. It’s also ONCE FOR ALL (Hebrews 10:10) There are no contradictions in The Word…EVER.
Sometimes love must be tough. Since no one is perfect and there is no one righteous…AT ALL (Romans 3:10-12, Romans 3:22-24) the desire is for everyone truly born again (John 3:1-21) to hit as close to 100% of everything for which The Lord created that person. Therein lies the motive. There’s a HUGE difference between salvation and rewards (see 1 Corinthians 3:1-15 for more information).
    Pass, thanks.

    • Thank you for your comment. 🙂 You are correct that Jesus broke the curse “once and for all”. I totally agree. Every born again believer is free from the curse because of Jesus. But we must personally appropriate to our own lives the salvation and freedom from the curse that Jesus died to give us so that we can experience it in our own lives. Although Jesus died for my sins, I must receive His gift of eternal life in order for it to be operative in my life. I also agree that there is a “huge difference between salvation and rewards.” The former is a free gift. The latter we gain because of our loving service toward the Lord Who saved us. Thank you again for taking the time to comment. Many blessings to you! 🙂

      • I agree with you wholeheartedly. To me the difference in aligning our souls with the truth of the Messiah’s sacrifice, lies in the difference between salvation (which is the start) and sanctification and purification. Revelation 19 v 7 talks about the bride that has prepared herself for her Bridegroom. That implies that apart from the finished work on the cross that ensured our salvation (that we must also still choose to accept), there is something that the bride must do to actually enter the wedding feast as bride. I believe that process is the sanctification and purification process. So there is a distinct difference between being saved and spending eternity in heaven and being the bride that partakes in the wedding feast with her Bridegroom. The parable of the ten virgins confirms this. All ten were virgins and all ten had lamps, but only the five that had extra oil, were allowed into the wedding feast. The other question that comes to mind is this: if all was done on the cross and that is the end of it, why is the church (the body), full of born again believers, so broken and often looks no different to the world who has not accepted the Messiah as their Savior? Of course He can do it all in the blink of an eye, but for some reason requires us prepare ourselves as bride. My conclusion is that we stop at salvation (which is important), but do not follow through with sanctification and purification.

        • Thank you for your valued comment, Johan. I believe that the reason the Church is full of “broken” believers is that the Church has not yet understood, comprehended, and apprehended her identity in Christ. Blessings to you!

  4. Thank you for this post.
My living under this curse came to a head
A few years ago when I was 45.
    It went like this….
My wife’s father died, my dog died, my marriage
Was dying, my job was dying, i felt like I was dying.
(I have had to chop at my hands with
Nail clippers for 7 hrs a day while doing a 15 hr work day)
    (Inherited condition-hideous and painful)
    I had always felt alone
    Suffered double mindedness
    This insane skin condition
    Always felt alone.

(Me screaming in desperation to God)
If my life is just dead babies and dragging
Grey blocks up a hill, in screaming pain until
I die, just do it. Drop a bus on me, fix me or break me.
    What is my purpose!!!!!!!!!?!!!!!!!

What happened next will take too long to write,
But years later after breaking me, I pray this is another step
    In Him fixing me.

Thank you for the prayer. I cried all through saying it.

    • Thank you for your comment, John! I praise God for giving you the grace to receive His deliverance. May He use you mightily to bring others to Him. Many blessings to you and your precious family!

  5. I was recently told by my pastor of being subject to the bastard curse. Although I forgave my parents the enemy tried to wound my soul, spirit and body with rejection, abandonment and more. I cried out to the Lord, and He forgave me and led me to your site. I prayed your prayer in addition to declaring Galatians 4:4-5 – But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.” So I am now adopted by the Lord.” I believe the curse is removed by what Jesus shed blood on the cross.

    • Thank you so much for writing, dear Victoria! Yes, the curse is removed by the Blood of Jesus! Praise His Holy Name! Blessings to you, dear sister in Christ!

  6. Thank you MaryAnn and God bless you. I was born a bastard and put up for adoption. I was never angry at anyone for this and felt blessed I wasn’t aborted. My granddaughter is illegitimate, too. My daughter and my granddaughter’s father were going to get married and he died. I know the feeling of double-mindedness (actually bi-polar runs in my family). My biological mother is bi-polar. Other mental illness also runs in the family and pedophilia in the biological side. My parents that adopted me were good to me but both died very young. I have always had trouble with intimacy and other things. I do feel God has been kind to me and I am adopted into His family since I truly accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior September 25, 2017. Before that I was lukewarm and double-minded. I prayed this prayer tonight and prayed for my daughters and granddaughter. I know God is blessing me and I want Him to make me new. God is good and there is none like Him. It is interesting that Shame and Guilt is what I am working on now with my Christian Counselor. My homework this week is on GUILT. God must have led me here. Praise God in Jesus Christ’s Name.

    • Dear Kelly Sue,

Thank you so much for your comment. I praise God for the amazing work of healing He is doing in your life. Oh, how He loves you! Our Lord is, indeed, good! May He continue to restore your soul as He reveals to you the beautiful person He created you to be. Thank you again for reaching out.

      With love and blessings,

      MaryAnn

      • Thank you for sharing all of the information.
Please help me to understand how a person who trusts in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, is a Christian, and spiritually covered in the blood of Jesus Christ, can be experiencing the devastating effects of the Bastard Curse?
I am prayerfully and sincerely seeking freedom and truth.
I look forward to your response.

        • Hello, Adele,

You ask a great question! A born-again believer who has trusted in Jesus, is a Christian, and is spiritually covered by the Blood of Christ has been freed from every curse from a spiritual point of view. This truth is stated in Galatians 3: 13 ESV: “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree.’”

When a person is born again, he receives a new spirit and becomes a new creation (2 Corinthians 5: 17). But whereas his spirit is saved, his soul and body are not yet saved. This is the reason that, after we are born again, we can still suffer from the same issues with which we suffered before we were born again–issues like anger or envy or anxiety. Why? Because these issues are issues of the soul and not the spirit.

Issues of the soul often result from generational curses. For example, anger seems to run in families, as does anxiety. The same is true of the bastard curse. The wonderful news is that when we are born again, we have authority and power over every curse. We can drive it out in the Name of Jesus.

So, to answer your question, for the born-again believer, the effects of a curse are in the soul and /or in the body, not in the spirit. Those effects can be removed when we use the authority and power given to us by Christ to drive them out.

I hope this answers your question and gives you peace. The Lord wants you to be at peace. If you have any more questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

          Many blessings,

          MaryAnn

  7. I of course still LOVE my parents. But they made many foolish mistakes. I am the result of my father’s second marriage ( to my mother ). God does not “honor” second marriages!!! That would put me squarely under the bastard curse!!! My father’s first wife Betty then married my fathers great great cousin, C. Beck. My great grandmother’s ( my grandfather’s mother’s ) maiden name was Beck!!! Yeah… “awkward!!!” C. Beck and my dad’s first wife Betty ( the mother of my half brother Scott ) had a son named Matt Beck. Matt has grew up to be an alcoholic who always put himSELF first. As a result, he permanently burned his bridges with my half bother Scott. My half brother Scott had a son named Don ( after my grandfather Don ) off of his first wife. They divorced due to my brothers drug and alcohol problem. But Scott has been free of drugs and alcohol for many years now. He has since remarried ( yeah, “whoops!” ) and had two daughters. They, no doubt ALSO fell under the bastard curse!!! They are doing quite well, but neither of them like to eat very much. This is strange, considering the fact that due to the “gluttony curse “ we all LOVE to eat!!! In fact my niece Casey ( who has my grandpa Don’s dark red hair ) thinks that she is FAT if she weighs any more than 90 pounds!!!
And then, there’s the fact that my grandparents ( again, the ones on my fathers side) were Free Masons!!! My grandfather was 43rd degree!!! To get that High up, you have to know some pretty serious esoteric shit!!! For most Free Masons, the 32nd degree is “the ceiling!!!” It is very difficult and tricky to get any higher than that. Most never do. I shudder to think of all the additional curses that could have brought down on our heads!!! Not good.

  8. Also, please please PLEASE pray “psalm 91” on my behalf!!! Bad luck and loneliness have followed my all throughout my days. This is “wrong” in so many different levels!!! With sadness and love????I thank you. God bless.

    • Dear M.J.

Thank you for reaching out. The first question I would ask you is “Have you been born again?” This is the starting point for all deliverance. If you have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, pray this prayer with me now: “Lord Jesus, I come to You just as I am. You said that You would never reject anyone who comes to You for salvation. I need You, Jesus. I invite You into my life to be my personal Savior and Lord. Thank You for setting me free. In Your Name I pray. Amen.

If you sincerely prayed this prayer, you are now a born-again child of God. He is Your Father, and He wants to turn the “mess” of your life into the “message” of your life. So be encouraged, my friend! 🙂

Read the Bible every day. Pray every day. Prayer is simply talking to your Heavenly Father and pouring out your heart to Him. Pray the prayer of deliverance that I posted in the blog post on the Bastard Curse. The Word of God will set your soul free from all bondage. Forgive all those who have hurt you, no matter what they have done.

God has a great plan for your life. Trust Him moment by moment to lead you into all truth.

      Many blessings to you,

      MaryAnn

  9. Hi I just learned that i nd my one brother is an eillegitimate child . And our lives were not easy . my father deseted us nd mother used to work i started working at the age of sixteen nd now there is no one for my mother she is 72 nd abandoned nd has diabetes. Are we under dat curse
    PLS how to remove it

    • Thank you for reaching out, Monica. I am sorry you have gone through so much. Yet, there is One Who will never abandon you or your mother. His Name is Jesus. To answer your question, if you were not born out of wedlock, you are not under the bastard curse. Only those who were born out of wedlock are under that curse. But there is deliverance for all who were born under the bastard curse. One has only to accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and then command the bastard curse to be removed from one’s soul in the Name of Jesus. I have included a sample prayer your brother can pray to be delivered. But first he must be born again. In other words, first he must accept Christ as his Savior and Lord. I hope this helps, my friend. 🙂

  10. This curse is something I became mindfully aware of quite recently, yes I kept hearing of generational curses, etc. all my life and I believed in them I just did not know the importance of breaking them and what needed to be done. I live in a country where the importance of marriage is just not there, even Christians most come to Christ after the damage has been done. I was born under the bastard curse so was my mother and my grandmother and as far as I know my great grandmother also so you get the picture. I do not have any children but I obviously am cursed and I have prayed the prayer as was well as my own repented prayer since I committed my life to the Lord. What troubles me is that I see so much evidence of this curse in many people’s lives and pray that they come to the revelation before it’s too late.

    • Thank you so much for writing, Nikanta. Yes, sadly, there are many under the bastard curse. I praise God that you were delivered. Glory to His Holy Name! Perhaps our Lord will use you to help others to be set free by His power. Many blessings to you!

  11. Hello MaryAnn, and thank you for all you have done to write this information. My son Michael could really use your prayers as I had him out of wedlock 39 years ago, and he is really struggling today, I think as a result of this curse. Will you please pray for him? I also had my 4th child Christopher out of wedlock and although he knows The Lord, he could also use prayers as well. It’s interesting as my Mom passed away over 23 years ago and her name is MaryAnn as well and she spelled her name the same as yours, it brought me comfort to see this. Thank you again for being a mighty woman of our Lord Jesus Christ, it sure blesses me to say the prayer you have written here and to connect with you. God Bless you and your family all in the Mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!
    Sincerely,
    Sandra K. Breakey

    • Thank you for your comment, Sandra. I replied to you via email but will also reply here. Yes, I have prayed for Michael and will continue to pray for him and for Christopher as well. Our Lord is faithful to His Word.

How interesting that your mom’s name was MaryAnn and that she spelled it as I do.

I pray our Lord’s blessings on you. He loves you deeply and has great plans for your life. Thank you again for reaching out. 🙂

  12. Thank God i finally realized after years of terrible luck, financial devastation, ruined relationships, misery and depression I finally realized why? I am having a hard time accepting something that was not my fault. But boy did i suffer for years from this curse. I new the events in my life went much deeper than bad luck or bad karma. But people told me i was crazy and there was no curse. Now i know this curse is very real and brought about so much misery and pain in my life.

My mother started this. She pursued and stalked my father. He didn’t even want her. She contrived a sick evil plan to get him drunk and entice him into sex knowing she would get pregnant. He was forced to marry her and the marriage was hell on earth. Thank God my father divorced her. But by that point so much damage was done to the children. I received the brunt of the curse. I realize my parents entire marriage was a farse. Based on lies, manipulation, fornication, sexual sin. The children suffered terribly and i blame my mother because she was the evil aggressor and she trapped my father into marriage.

She used subsequent pregnancies after the first baby in attempt to force my father to stay with her. Her plan eventually backfired and she had a miserable marriage which she deserved . But she also tried to control and ruin her children. The crazy part was she thought she did nothing wrong and always played the martyr. I have much anger and bitterness because she started the curse and innocent people suffered because of her evil and selfish ways. Its unfair and it robbed me of many things that I should have had in life. How do i come to terms with this? God did not protect me from the evil influences in my life. I feel i was robbed of a normal and happy life.

    • Matthew, thank you for reaching out. I am very sorry that you endured so much suffering. Life doesn’t seem fair. But while we can’t prevent what happened to us as children, we can choose to determine how we look at what happened to us.

I, too, came from a dysfunctional home. But I made a choice that I would not let my past break me. Instead, I would let it make me. You can make the same choice.

You see, it’s not really what happens to us that matters. It’s how we deal with what happens to us. Your terrible experiences can make you a better person if you will let them.

All of us suffer in this world in one way or another. All suffering is the result of the fall of man, which occurred when our first parents, Adam and Eve, chose to listen to Satan instead of God. As a result, they lost the authority and power God had given them and they gave that authority and power to Satan. So Satan is now the god of this world–but only for a while. One day, Jesus will come back and take full charge once again, and the world will be what He originally intended it to be–a place of joy and peace.

Meanwhile, Jesus gave us the opportunity to overcome Satan. This opportunity is called “being born again” and it means accepting the gift of salvation that Jesus died to give us on the Cross. When we are born again, God gives us a new spirit that is connect to Him. We become new creations, the way God originally intended us to be.

What happened to you in your life did not come from God. It was not His will for you. All of your suffering came from Satan. But God wants to set you free. Why not let Him? You have nothing to lose but everything to gain.

Remember that God loves you! He wants a personal relationship with you. He wants to heal your heart and your soul. He has a great plan for your life, but He won’t force it on you. He wants you to come to Him out of your own free will. I urge you to accept Jesus Christ today and watch Him turn all of your suffering into the greatest blessing you have ever known. To receive Jesus, go to my website at this link:

Blessings to you, Matthew. I will be praying for you. Write back to me when you accept Christ. I want to send you a little booklet to help you.

  13. I understand the bastard curse. But i feel it is unfair for an innocent child to suffer the pain this curse causes. How can God hold an illegitimate child accountable for being conceived out of wedlock? It’s not their fault. In extreme cases, its almost like the victim never had a chance from day one. Which it sounds like is ‘unfair’ to those afflicted.

It seems that those born from good parents reap many rewards. Those that aren’t may pay the price their whole life. Where is the justice or fairness in this? Why would someone afflicted with this ‘curse’ have any desire to worship God anyway? A lifetime of misery can sour ones attitude toward God.

    • Thank you for your comment, Cara. You ask very good questions–questions that I myself asked as a young woman many years ago. What I learned is this: God is not the source of evil; Satan is. You see, most people think that God is in control of this world. But the truth is that Satan is now the god of this world–but only temporarily. When God created Adam and Eve, He gave them authority and dominion over the earth (Genesis 1: 26-28). But they turned that authority and dominion over to Satan (Genesis 3).

We have further proof that Satan is now the god of this world in Matthew 4: 8-9. Satan offered Jesus the kingdoms of the world. Satan could not have offered Jesus the kingdoms of the world had they not belonged to Satan. So, this world is now in the hands of Satan and has been since Adam and Eve forfeited their authority and dominion and gave them over to Satan. This is the reason that there is evil in the world and that innocent children suffer.

When Jesus died on the Cross and rose from the dead, He took back the authority and dominion that Adam and Eve had given to Satan. But this authority and dominion now belong ONLY to those who are born again–in other words, only to those who have accepted Christ as Savior and Lord. One day, Satan’s authority over the earth will end completely (Revelation 20).

      • After going through comments i give up. If people with this curse have a hard time managing it despite living in a developed first world nation, what home does a homeless and mentaly ill (childhood trauma) bastard who lives in a 3rd world country have with no support structure. Those who abuse me and enjoying the blessings of God because they are legit…i guess i am the subject of Gods hatred. I did not commit the adultery. God is allpowerful yet he looks at people like me wjth dusgust and send us to hell foe a crime i never commited. They say God is fair. How is this fair? To sufer on earth rejected by everyone and tk get thrown in hell after death. I wikl never do this do my worst enemy. If God hates me cos i was the product ofan adulterous affair hence has sentenced me ti a LIFE of painand suffering ….who am i argue. I jist feel is incredibly unfair. I have lost hope of every being happy. Im 37 now. I have lost so many things i will never get back.

We are told God is a God of love. aHow can s God of Love bring a child into this world and place a curse on the child and give demons legal right? And then still blame the child for not being strong enough to resist the devil. What did i do to God to deserve this. I am no saint…but i never kilmed anybody. I have a benevolent heart. I dont wish to bring people harm. All my life has been a struggle. What have we bastards done to God to be subject to such suffering. Its scary, confusing and sad.

        Thanks for your tjme

        • Dear Jack,

Thank you so much for reaching out. I am sorry you feel as though you need to give up. You must have suffered deep pain in order to feel this way. But, before you give up, please consider my thoughts below.

You are right to wonder why you should be punished since you did not commit the adultery that caused your birth. God is glad that you ask this question, because there is an answer much different from the reason you think.

First of all, God loves you! He proved His love for you by dying on the Cross to take away your pain. All suffering in this world comes from Satan, not from God. Why? Because Satan is currently the god of this world.

You see, when God first created man and woman, He created them perfect. He intended for them to live free of all suffering and pain. He also gave them dominion over the earth and put them in charge of the earth. God also created man and woman with a free will because He wanted us to love Him out of choice, not out of coercion.

As a result of free will, Adam and Eve chose to rebel against God’s command that they not eat the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Why did God tell them not to eat of this tree? Because its fruit would cause them to experiencee evil. They disobeyed God and, as a consequence, experienced evil and the knowledge of evil.

The instant Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they forfeited their authority and dominion over the earth to Satan, the one who had tempted them to rebel.

Now Satan is the god of this world. That is the reason for evil. But Satan will not be the god of this world forever.

When Jesus died on the Cross and rose from the dead, He took back from Satan the authority and power that God had originally given to Adam and Eve. But only those who are born-again followers of Jesus now have that power and authority. Others do not.

Why did Jesus die on the Cross and rise from the dead? Because He wanted to take back His man and His woman whom Satan had overtaken.

So, it is not God who caused your suffering. It is Satan. Satan caused your childhood trauma. Satan caused your suffering and pain. But the good news is that Jesus wants to take it away from you and to heal you.

God does not place curses on children, nor on anyone. Curses come from Satan. the Bible says that Satan’s goal is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10: 10), but that Jesus came to give you “abundant life.”

Satan does not want you to know that God is good. Satan wants you to blame God for your problems and not Satan.

God loves you and created you for a great purpose. One amazing thing about God is that He can take the mess of our lives and make it the message of our lives. That is what He wants to do with you. He wants to heal you, to restore your soul, and to give you great joy and peace. Won’t you let Him do this in your life?

You may ask how. There is only one way. Ask Jesus to come into your life. Give Him permission to love you, to heal you, and to restore your joy.

He did this for me, and He will do it for you. I, too, experienced childhood trauma and abuse. I, too, wanted to give up. But when I allowed Jesus into my life, He healed the wounds of my soul and gave me joy, peace, and meaning in life. He wants to do the same for you.

Yes, God is, indeed, the God of love. He loved you so much that He left the splendors of Heaven, came to earth, and died so that we can live. The Cross is called the Great Exchange. Jesus took your suffering and pain and gave you His joy and peace. Jesus took your sins and gave you His holiness. Jesus took your hopelessness and gave you His hope.

So, I urge you to invite Him into your life now. Give Him a chance to show you how much He loves you and what His love can do in you, for you, and through you.

Then write to me after you do. I will send you a PDF booklet to help you move forward after you are born again.

          Blessings,

          Dr. MaryAnn

  14. A wonderful web site. Glad I found it. I wanted to briefly reply to Cara’s statement. First, we all know that life isn’t fair. I was raised Christian but there are still so many things I don’t understand. I believe the Devil is the source of all evil. But, I also believe that God has ultimate power over everything. I feel God could destroy Satan in a heartbeat. The Bible also says God can be Vengeful. I believe in pre-determination also. Pre-determination hardly seems fair either. I have so many questions that will probably never be answered until I stand before God in Judgment . What if the bastard curse was so bad that it drove someone to suicide? Do you blame that on the person who was cursed? What if the curse was so bad that the person couldn’t take it any more? I am confused about many things.

I Strongly believe the Corona Virus goes along with Scripture. Bible says as time passes due to sin the world will continually get worse. There will be terrible sickness and pandemic (how many people lost their lives due to Corona). Financial devastation will come. We will find out within the coming months how badly the economy was affected since the Corona Virus first surfaced. Eventual famine and food shortages will occur. These events are taking place right now and people still don’t get it? People should be repenting and mending their ways but many are not. Even if the vaccine is successful we may have a more deadly virus or disease waiting in the wings. We are living in a scary time. Having to deal with a ‘Bastard Curse’ will only make life more difficult for those who are unfortunate enough to be afflicted with.

    • Thank you for your valued input, Barbara. You are right that we do not understand so many things. Scripture says that we “see through a glass darkly” (1 Corinthians 13: 12). At the same time, God has given born-again believers authority over Satan. God has also given us a free will to choose whether or not we want to be saved. I do not believe in predestination. Yes, God knows whether or not each person will choose Him or not, but God does not decide who will choose Him or not.

It’s like being a witness to an accident. If I stand at my window and see that two cars coming from opposite directions are heading straight for each other and will collide, I do not cause the collision. I simply see it in advance. So it is with salvation. Because God knows everything, He knows who will choose salvation and who will not. This does not mean that God determines those choices.

Regarding the Bastard Curse, Scripture tells us that curses can be generational. This does not mean that one must remain in bondage to a curse. The born-again follower of Jesus Christ has power over every curse (Luke 10: 19). This is the Good News of the Gospel. Jesus Christ has overcome the world, and we who are in Him have also overcome the world. Praise His Holy Name forevermore!

  15. I am a firm believer in “Curses”. I feel very strongly that a “Curse” is more than “Unfair”. The fact that a person spends their entire life suffering for the lustful sins of their parents is more than “Unlucky” or “Misfortune’. I had a close friend that committed suicide because she couldn’t take anymore misery and pain. Her life was tainted with the “Bastard Curse” in every way. This destructive curse affected every aspect of her life. Her parents and the entire family was “Evil” to the core. Where is the justice in all of this? A lifetime of “hell’ due to the mistakes of someone else. That really stinks. Getting “Lousy” is a Curse I admit. In this situation Where is the Justice? I have no doubt if Ellen was born of different parents she would still be alive.

    • Thank you for reaching out, Patrice. I am very sorry to hear about the suicide of your friend Ellen. Losing a close friend through suicide is especially painful. My heart goes out to you.

I understand your anger at what seems to be an unjust situation. The truth is that all of us suffer because of the sins of others, and many people suffer because of our sins. This is the reason we all need a Savior. Also, no matter what has happened to us in the past, no matter what kind of family we come from, each of us has a choice to change course. We are not victims of our past nor of our circumstances. We are not helpless nor powerless. We can decide the path we want to take in life.

Regarding your question, “Where is the justice?”, consider this. Where was the justice when Jesus took the rap for our sins? He was innocent, but He took the punishment for us. Jesus could have asked, “Where is the justice?” But He didn’t. He loved us too much.

Not a single one of us deserves Heaven. Every single one of us deserves Hell. But because of Jesus, we can escape Hell and live in Heaven forever when we die. I hope you make the choice to accept Jesus. He will set you free!

  16. Hi.
I firmly believe every thing written in scripture. However, someone recently pointed out to me that God referring to Illegitimate and/Bastard children is all the “old testament way before Christianity. Also- this was written according to Jewish right. Once Christ died for our sins and Christianity spread then everything changed. Christ shed his blood for our sins and Christianity flourished. Most Christians don’t place credence in the Old Testament when Christianity had not yet come about. Much has taken place since the Old Testament. I don’t believe Jewish right applies to Christains therefore, this curse means nothing any more.

    • Thank you for your thoughtful reply, Hanna. I greatly appreciate it. You are right that one who is under the New Covenant has been freed from the curse. The Word says so in Galatians 3: 13. But someone who is not under the New Covenant–i.e., someone who has not been born again–is still subject to the curse.

Jesus is, indeed, sufficient to cover all curses.

  17. At 59 years of age Ive tried everything. The issues you list Ive suffered from my entire life. Decided not to reproduce so maybe this will end this curse for anyone in the future. Not sure why God lets those of us unwanted and unintended walk this earth alone. Guess its the punishment. Never met my “donors” and pray I never will. Thank your article on the subject and glad your life has worked out well. Best wishes.

    • Dear Fred,

Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry you have suffered all of your life. Please allow me to share the truth about God with you.

      1. God loves you!

      2. Evil does not come from God. It comes from Satan who, for a time, is the god of this world. Satan is the god of this world because Adam and Eve forfeited their God-given authority by sinning against God in the Garden of Eswn. In so doing, they gave over their authority and now Satan has it.

      3. When a person accepts Christ as his Savior, the authority God originally gave to Adam and Eve reverts to the person who has accepted Christ. This means that those who have accepted Christ–in other words, those who are born again–now have the same authority and power over Satan that Adam and Eve once had but gave up.

      4. You are not alone on this earth. God is with you. He wants a personal relationship with you. He wants you to accept His gift of eternal life. This life is in His Son, Jesus Christ. When you accept Jesus, you accept eternal life. Jesus is the only way to be saved.

God is not out to get you, Fred. He’s out to love you! But you have to let Him love you. Won’t you do that now? I trust that you will.

      Blessings,

      MaryAnn

  18. I have been at war with all kinds of familiar spirits and curses lately. I have just prayed this prayer. I believe the Lord has delivered me from this curse as well.

    • Praise God for your deliverance, Tyembre! Galatians 3: 13 tells us that Jesus became a curse so that we could be freed from every curse. When you accept Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you receive freedom from every curse. Stay close to Jesus. Resist the devil when he tries to rob you of your freedom. Satan is a liar. Jesus is TRUTH!

  19. God knows that probably half or more of the population now are bastard children. Christ became the Curse. He became all of our sins. To receive Him is to be free from the guilt debt of all our sins. It is probably one of those things that needs to be confessed and renounced, but definate that you are not a bastard when you get BORN AGAIN. THIS IS A HOLY BIRTH. RE BIRTH. SO .. I THINK there may be healing in this if we have not taken all sin to the cross, or forgiven self or family. but to say we are illegitimate in Gods kingdom is a bit far fetched for me to grasp. I think this is the second time I have been on this website and have said these prayers twice. When people do not know Gods word it is then that we are not free. God tells us we are a new creation in HIM.

    • Thank you, Evelyn, for your valued comment. You are absolutely right that Jesus became the curse that covers all of our sin and that no born again child of God is under the curse. When we are born again, we receive a new spirit, but our soul (emotions, mind, and will) and our body are not born again. The problem with the effects of illegitimacy are suffered in the soul and many times in the body. When we pray to be delivered from the bastard curse, the prayer is intended to heal the emotional and psychological effects of the curse in the soul.

For example, a person who has been born out of wedlock can certainly be born again. But in his soul (emotions, mind, and will), he can still suffer the repercussions of having been born out of wedlock, such as shame, feelings of inferiority, etc. This is what Jesus heals. This is called sanctification, which means the process of being cleaned up and healed by the Lord.

So, I am not saying that those of us who are born again but who have experienced the bastard curse in our lineage are illegitimate in God’s eyes. Not at all. If we have been born again, we are totally accepted in God’s eyes. I, therefore, agree with you. 🙂

  20. These people don’t know the truth Christ did not come to abolish the law he came to fulfill it mini Christians they’re going to be saying Lord Lord didn’t we prophesy in the name didn’t we cast out demons in your name he declared of them I never knew you workers of iniquity the one that’s practice lawlessness a true Christian Keep Jesus Christ Commandments no double-minded person will enter into the kingdom of God no lukewarm Christian will have any inheritance once you get saved all things have passed away everything becomes new you are a new creature and if you go back to your sin there’s no more sacrifice for sin that’s the true gospel.

  21. Dear MaryAnn
Our Savior came to call sinners to repentance, so that sin should not have dominion and power over us.  Jesus said, “Apart from me you can do nothing.  I am the vine and you are the branches.  If you remain united to me, you can ask the Father for anything in my Name and He will give it to you.   Ask that your joy may be full.  If you ask according to the Will of God.” It is God’s will that we live holy pure lives, in mind, heart, soul and body.   Gospel John Chapter 15

It is not God’s will that His children are held in bondage in the grip of Satan and sin. It matters not how small the sin seems to be. The author of sin is Satan, and Satan wants to destroy us, in this life and in hell for all eternity.
Sin is a cancer, which spreads that will eventually destroy our whole triune person, Spirit /Soul, Mind and Body in this world, and in hell for all eternity.  Jesus came so that sin would no longer have dominion and power over us.

Study the Gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.  Letters 1, 2, 3, John
    before Revelation.

The Life, purity and goodness in meditating and contemplating the teachings of Jesus Christ the Son of God, is the only salvation for our immortal souls.
The only way to destroy the power of sin in our life is to face Satan and your sin in full combat with your Cross through the Word of God.
Be as willing to be crucified in Christ’s death on your Cross today, than to ever willfully commit another sin, thereby giving your allegiance to the Antichrist, and so be forever separated from our Divine Lord Jesus Christ.  Galatians 5:  Matthew, 4: 1 – 11.

Always praying that the Will of God the Father be done, in every situation, according to the Word of God, through faith that works by Love.

It is God’s Will that we are empowered to destroy Satan and the power sin has over oud mind, heart, soul, body, and desires.    “Those who belong to Christ Jesus our Lord, have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts” Galatians 5; 16-26.  “The road to life is narrow and few there are who find it.”
    Matthew 7; 13 – 14.    “God Is Watching You”

    Gospel John 3: 14 -18.
    14. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the son of man be lifted up.
    15. That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
    16. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever BELIEVES in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
    17. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
    18. He that believes on Him is not condemned; but he that  BELIEVES NOT  is condemned already, because he has not believed in the Name of the only Begotten Son of God.
    Numbers 21: 6 – 9. John 8:

“The only Way to Life & Truth is through our Lord Jesus Christ ”

The Way to Life is narrow and few there are who find it!
Few men find the Way, because so few are prepared to follow the Saviour of the world on the road that leads to Eternal Life.

When Jesus said, “You CANNOT be my disciple unless you deny yourself, take up your cross and follow Me”
He was addresing multitudes who were following him
    2000 years ago!
    Matt. 7: 13-14.   Luke 14: 25–35.  Matt: 7: 21-27.

Yet, to-day billions, confess they are Christians!
How many are truly prepared to obey the Lord of Glory?

“There is a way to man that seems right
But the ways thereof lead to destruction.”
    Proverbs. 16: 25.  &  14:12.

“What does it profit a man if he gain the whole world and then suffers the loss of his own soul!

What will a man give in exchange for his soul.?”
    Matt. 16: 24 -27.  Revelation 21: 6 – 8.

If mankind would fight for Righteousness and Truth as hard as they fight to satisfy their lusts, vanity & greed to possess the treasures this world!
A world, which is passing away and the lusts of it, the whole world could be saved!
    Galatians 5: 19 -25;  6:   1John 2: 15 -28.

    To live and die out of Christ results in eternal damnation;
But the fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom
For all who have faith in Almighty God & obey His Living Word Jesus Christ our Redeemer & Savior.
    Psalm. 111- 10.  Read Psalm 34:

Why do blind men follow blindly,  the sayings and doings of blind evil wicked sinful men & women?
    Matt. 15: 13 -14

“It is because they are blind and the blind deceive the blind.”
No one is able to deceive the elect children of God,

They know in whom they believe and where they are going.
Our blessed Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, is the only man ever born of a Virgin.
Our Lord Jesus, knew where He had come from and where He was going!
This is the reason He said,
“I AM THE WAY – The TRUTH and The LIFE “
And still so few truly follow Him to Life through His death.
    Gospel St John 3: 1-36.  John 14: -17:

Meditate in the Words of the Son of God,
    They are Spirit and Life.

“Unless a man eat of this Bread and drink from this Fountain, he shall not have Life in him –
Or ever see the Kingdom of God “  John 6: 53- 63

‘Every Word written herein is Holy Scripture’
The Living WORD & WILL of ALMIGHTY GOD
Meditate in the Gospel of St. John

The Living Bread Who came down from heaven.
Eat the Word of God it is Spirit & Life,  and so receive great peace of mind & heart and joy beyond human understanding!
Because the Word of God is Living & Powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul & spirit and of joints & marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts & intents of the heart.
    Hebrews 4: 12.

    • Thank you, Vanessa, for your post. You are right. Jesus became a curse so that we would be free from every curse (Galatians 3: 13).

I encourage you to put your post into a booklet or to begin a blog. 🙂

      Blessings to you!

    • Praise the Lord, Trinka! Welcome to the Family of God! I have sent you my free booklet, After You’re Born Again. May it bless you as you begin your exciting journey with our Lord.

    • Praise the Lord! You are not free in Christ. May He richly bless you with revelation knowledge of His infinite love for you. May He use you mightily to lead others to Him. Many blessings!

  22. Lot had sex with his daughters as well as the daughters having sex with their father. Did lot taste some of that curse or not? I think it’s only fair that he did, BUT?

    • Excellent questions. Lot’s incest resulted in the creation of the Moabites and Ammonites, two of Israel’s greatest adversaries for many years thereafter. Sin always has consequences. But God will forgive sin when we repent. Ruth, the ancestor of Jesus, was a Moabitess and a woman of great faith and love. When we turn to God, He redeems us and brings good out of evil.

  23. I am glad to have stumbled upon your article. I have heard of the bastard curse before but never looked much into it. I have gone through life feeling like I was never good enough, feared of abandonment and rejection, feeling unloved by about everyone, and always had issues with keep friends and relationships. Everything you said made sense since I am 1 out of 3 born as a bastard (illegitimate) from my mother. I have a sister who is a legitimate child since my step dad raised me. I am tired of the life I was born into and I am planning to continue reading your prayer to break my curse until I am sure I am free of it for good. God has been with me through my roughest times and I have been greatful that he has been there.

    • Thank you so very much for reaching out. Know that God loves you infinitely and that when you draw near to Him, He draws near to you.

I am sorry that you have suffered so much. But rest assured that since you have prayed to receive Christ, you are now free. You do not have to pray the prayer over and over again. One time is enough.

Be at peace that God holds you in the palm of His hand. You do not have to earn His love. It is yours already. So go forward in peace and joy. Stay close to Jesus by talking with Him throughout the day. Read the Bible every day so that you will learn how to live in victory over the enemy. And tell others about our wonderful Jesus who has set us free!

    • Praise the Lord, Donna. And welcome to you and your friend to the Family of God.

I will send the free ebooklet to your email address. Please have your friend write to me at info@maryanndiorio.com, and I will forward a copy to her as well.

Now, I would like to pray for both of you:

Father God, in the Name of Jesus, I praise You and thank You that Donna and her friend have accepted Jesus as their Savior and Lord. As they grow in You, I ask that You would reveal to them how much You love them and how much You desire to bless them. Lord, I ask that You would make of them what You created them to be. May they discover their life purpose in You and fulfill it. In the Name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Please stay in touch. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to write to me.

With love and blessings in our Precious Savior,

      MaryAnn

  24. This powerful experience has helped me to deliver Diane whose family have undergone a curse of bastards. Her mother was a bastard , from a grandmother who was a bastard and herself a bastard then she has mothered a bastard. So she has lived a cursed life of which wants to overcome it and her daughter not to suffer the same curse. So I appreciate to have read your shared experience I found on Google when I searched how I could pray and break a bastard curse. God bless you.

    • Praise the Lord! He is faithful to His Word! His Word says in Galatians 3: 13 that “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.” Those who are in Christ have been freed from every curse. Hallelujah!

God bless you, too, and thank you for writing.

      Dr. MaryAnn

  25. Oh please, that’s not the definition of “mamzer” in Dt 23:2! The English term “bastard” is a loose and simplistic meaning. Besides, if Dt 23:2 was about all types of “bastards”, how did Jephthah become a judge? More importantly, how is it that he’s hailed as a hero of faith in Hebrews 11? How was Peretz, Yeshua’s ancestor conceived again?

    • Thank you, Anna, for your kindness in writing about Deuteronomy 23: 2.

While you are certainly correct in your broader definition of mamzer, it does also include the definition of bastard. Strong’s Concordance (H4464) states the following about the meaning of mamzer: “bastard, child of incest, illegitimate child, bastard, mixed population (fig.), born of a Jewish father and a heathen mother or visa versa.”

Strong’s Concordance (#H4464) further states this: מַמְזֵר mamzêr, mam-zare’; from an unused root meaning to alienate; a mongrel, i.e. born of a Jewish father and a heathen mother:—bastard.

According to Chabad.org, “Mamzer is Hebrew (and Yiddish) for ‘bastard’.”

So the definition of “bastard” as an illegitinate child is considered a proper definition. Nonetheless, your point is well-taken and much appreciated.

      Shalom!
