Happy New Year! Blessings to you for a new year filled with an ever deepening revelation of God’s infinite love for you!

For many of us, the year 2017 ended with weeping–weeping at the loss of loved ones; weeping at family members suffering from illness; weeping at unfulfilled dreams, broken relationships, and missed opportunities.

But the Lord would say to us today, “Stop weeping and start worshipping!” 

The Apostle John recounts in the Book of Revelation that he began to weep bitterly during his vision “because no one was found worthy to open the scroll and read it” (Revelation 5: 4). Imagine knowing that there was crucial information inside that scroll, but no one could open it to discover what that crucial information was! 

Have you ever been there? Are you wondering why your loved one died, why your marriage fell apart, why you lost your job?  Are you asking yourself, “What is written on the scroll of my life?”

As the Apostle John was despairing of the fact that no one could open the scroll, one of the twenty-four elders said to him, “Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne, has won the victory. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals” (Revelation 5: 5).

What joy for John to know that Jesus could open the scroll! That Jesus could reveal what was on the inside! That Jesus could bring meaning to the circumstances of life!

This same Jesus of the Book of Revelation–the same Jesus Who is revealed in the Book of Revelation–wants to open the scroll of your life. He wants to reveal to you the meaning of your life. 

How does He do so? Through worship!

Worshipping God gives us an eternal perspective on life. Worship causes us to transcend the circumstances of our lives and to enter those realms where the things that happen to us are viewed through the lenses of eternity.

Worship shows God that we trust Him, no matter what happens in our lives.

So, if you are weeping today, I encourage you to stop. Lay down weeping and put on the garment of praise. Begin to worship God in the midst of your sorrow. Soon you will discover that in place of sorrow, joy is welling up within you.

Scripture says this: “Weeping endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning” (Psalm 30: 5). We can hasten the joy of the morning as we begin to worship God during the night.
