Hello and Happy Day! This is Dr. MaryAnn Diorio, novelist and life coach, welcoming you to another episode of Winning with the Word. Today is Monday, November 7, 2022, and this is Episode #33 of Series 2022. This episode is titled “Sickness Is from Satan, Not from God”
_________________________________________
Last week’s message hit a nerve with many of you. I hear you. When I first learned that God did not make me sick, it hit a nerve with me, too. A big nerve!
So, today I’d like to dig a little more deeply into the topic of healing. Why? Because I know that many of you reading this post or listening to this podcast are dealing with sickness. Some of you, with serious sickness. And some of you have been dealing with sickness for a long, long time.
If you’re like me, you were taught that sickness comes from God and that, when it does, we simply have to lie down and take it. We have to accept it as His will. If that’s true, then something is wrong with this logic. Consider this: If sickness is God’s will, then going to a doctor violates God’s will and is sin. Yet, what’s the first thing we do when we feel sick? We go to a doctor.
In fact, you may have also been taught that God uses sickness to teach us a lesson. While I won’t deny that we learn some things when we’re sick, sickness is not God’s method of teaching us. His Word is. In Ephesians 4: 26, we learn that God teaches us through His Word. He washes us and cleanses us through His Word. His Word is His pedogagical method.
What parent would make his child sick in order to teach him something? Not a single one I know. Then why would God, the perfect parent, make anyone sick? It just doesn’t make sense.
So the question remains: where does sickness come from? The answer is that sickness—and everything evil—comes from Satan. Satan is the source of all evil, not God. Yet God is the first one to be blamed in the face of evil. I often say that God is the most maligned person in the universe when, in truth, He is the most wonderful, loving person in the universe.
But Satan has deceived the world into thinking that God causes evil. How often have you heard someone say that God took his loved one? That God made him sick? That God caused a tragedy? All of these are blatant lies perpetrated by Satan to cause us to doubt God’s goodness.
So why then, do people get sick? Here are three reasons:
1. Sickness is a result of the fall of Adam and Eve. Their sin corrupted human genetics, making it vulnerable to the attacks of Satan. You see, sin always opens the door to Satan. Sin is the way Satan gains a foothold in our lives. When we sin, we invite Satan in.
2. Sickness often results from disobeying God. When we disobey God, we willfully remove ourselves from His protection. And when we move out of the realm of God’s protection, we move into the realm of Satan’s attacks.
3. Sickness can result from the curses we speak upon ourselves. You’ve undoubtedly heard people say things like, “My father died of cancer. I guess I will, too.” Such kind of foolish talk opens the door to the Satanic realm by speaking words contrary to what God says about us. It is of utmost importance that we speak what God says about us in His Word. And God says that we were healed by the stripes of Jesus.
The born again believer has been set free from sickness as well as sin. In Mark 7: 27, the Bible calls healing “the children’s bread.” There is a common misconception about who is God’s child. Only those who are born again—in other words, who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord—are considered God’s children. Everyone else is God’s creation. The Bible says John 1: 12 that “to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” If you have not been born again, God does not consider you His child. Therefore, you do not have a right to healing, although God many times is merciful and heals unbelievers.
But if you are born again, you do have a right to healing. Jesus gave you that right when you accepted Him. When Jesus died on the Cross, He did two main things: 1) He took away our sickness when he received 39 lashes on His back, and 2) He forgave our sins when He shed His Blood on the Cross. This sacrifice is called the Atonement. Jesus died both for our sin and for our sickness. When we receive Him as our Savior and Lord, we receive forgiveness of our sin and healing of our sickness. We receive both of these gifts—forgiveness and healing—by faith in Jesus Christ, not by any works we perform.
I urge you to look to Jesus as your Healer. He is passionate about wanting you to be well in every area of your life. All you have to do is believe that He did what He said He did. He died to set you free from your sin. He died to set you free from sickness. Jesus is the source of health, not sickness. Jesus is the source of forgiveness, not condemnation. Jesus is the source of life, not death.
If you are in need of healing today, I want to pray for you:
Father God, in the Name of Jesus, I come to You on behalf of the person reading or listening to this message today, the one who needs healing. With the authority You have given me in Your Name, I command every spirit of infirmity to leave their bodies now. In the Name of Jesus, In that mighty Name, I release the healing power of the Holy Spirit into every cell of their body. I call them whole and healed in the Name of Jesus. And, Lord, I ask that You would restore their souls just as You restore their bodies. Thank You for Your faithfulness to Your Word. Amen.
Now expect God to heal you. Expect Him to be faithful to His promises to you in His Word. Then write to me to tell me of the wonderful healing God has wrought in your life.
While healing of the body is a great gift, healing of the spirit is far greater. If you have not yet accepted this wonderful Jesus as your Savior and Lord, I urge you to do so now. He longs for a personal relationship with you. That is the reason He created you, so that He could have a deep relationship with you for all eternity. So pray this simple prayer with me now:
Lord Jesus, I need You. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and that You alone can save me. There’s nothing I can do on my end to get into Heaven. I repent of trying to earn my way to You. I ask You to forgive me and to cleanse me of all unrighteousness. I receive You now as my Savior and my Lord. Thank You for saving me and healing me. In Your Name I pray. Amen.
If you sincerely prayed this prayer, welcome to God’s family! Please write down today’s date. It is your spiritual birthday. And please write to me at drmaryann@maryanndiorio.com. I would like to send you a free PDF booklet titled After You’re Born Again. This booklet will help you to get started in your walk with Jesus.
I also encourage you to get a Bible and read it every single day. The Bible is God’s love letter to you, His manual for your life. In the Bible, God reveals Who He is, and He teaches you how to live.
Finally, ask the Lord to lead you to the church of His choice for you where you can learn truth and experience fellowship and encouragement with other Christ-Followers. It is critically important in these last days to fellowship with other believers who are mature in Christ and who can guide you as you grow in Him.
