If you’ve had sex outside of marriage, this podcast is for you. So, listen up. It could give you insights into many of the problems you’re experiencing in your life—problems you’ve had trouble solving or resolving.

If you’ve had sex outside of marriage, you formed a soul tie—or more than one—with the person or persons with whom you had sex. Unbeknown to you, that soul tie may be the cause of the emotional, psychological, and physical problems that are now troubling you or maybe even tormenting you—problems like nightmares, panic attacks, anxiety, insomnia, unusual fear or phobias, addictive behaviors—or physical problems, like migraine headaches, infertility, heart palpitations, or digestive issues, among many others. You may have tried and tried to get rid of these problems, but they have been resistant to all kinds of treatment. But be encouraged! What you are about to hear may be the answer you’ve been looking for.

So, what is a soul tie? A soul tie is an emotional and psychological connection that forms in a relationship, especially a sexual relationship. For the purposes of this podcast, we will confine ourselves to discussing the soul tie that occurs in a sexual relationship.

Before getting into the meat of our discussion, let me explain that we human beings are made up of three parts: spirit, soul, and body. This truth is found in the Bible, God’s manual for man, in 1 Thessalonians chapter 5: verse 23 where the Apostle Paul writes: “May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Italics mine).

Just as God is a triune—or three-part Being (Father, Son and Holy Spirit)—so we who are made in His image, are triune beings made up of a spirit, a soul, and a body. Your spirit is who you really are, the core of your being, the real you. Your soul is made up of your mind, your will, and your emotions. Your body is what houses your spirit and your soul. Your body is what I like to call your “earth suit”.

Whenever a man and a woman engage in the sexual act, a bond is formed. That bond is either godly or ungodly. If the sexual act occurs in marriage, then the bond is godly. It is a bond sanctioned and approved by God because He has ordained that sex should be engaged in only in marriage. If the sexual act occurs outside of marriage, then the bond is ungodly. In other words, God declares the sexual act outside of marriage to be illegal and illicit, and He does not approve of it.

When a person has engaged in sexual activity outside of marriage—whether through fornication or adultery—a soul tie is formed. While the expression “soul tie” does not appear in the Bible, the concept of a soul tie does. In 1 Corinthians chapter 6: verse 16, the Bible says this: “He who joins himself to a harlot, becomes one body with her. For as it is written, ‘the two shall become one flesh.’”

The word “joins” in the Greek language used in this passage means “glued to”. Think of it this way. If you glue two pieces of wood together and then pull them apart, there is damage to each piece. Not only that. Parts from one piece of wood remain stuck to the other piece of wood.

God is not out to keep you from pleasure. He is out to keep you from pain!

This is what happens in the sexual act. The two souls are joined or glued together. In the context of marriage, this is a good thing because the man and the woman have committed to be faithful to each other for the rest of their lives. But outside of marriage, this is not a good thing because the man and the woman have not committed to be faithful to each other for the rest of their lives. In fact, the contrary is true. They avoid marriage because they do not want the commitment of faithfulness that marriage requires.

Nonetheless, pieces of the souls of the man and the woman who have had sex outside of marriage remain glued to each other. And those pieces will remain glued to each other until the Lord Jesus supernaturally removes them.

When a man and a woman engage in sexual intercourse, their sexual encounter is not just biological, as so many people wrongly think. On the contrary, when a man and a woman have sex, they connect not only on a physical level but also on a soul level. This means that they also connect emotionally and psychologically, whether they realize it or not.

Interestingly, studies show that the connection that occurs in the sexual act has a physiological component to it as well. During the sexual act, chemical substances in the body—such as dopamine, oxytocin, and vasopressin– are released that create neurochemical changes in the brain. These neurochemical changes cause emotional bonding, also known as limbic bonding, between the man and the woman. This bonding occurs in a sexual relationship whether the man or woman want it to occur or not.

Another way of saying it is that the man and the woman who have sex are glued together emotionally and psychologically whether they want to be glued together or not. Both partners form an attachment whether they want to or not, and both partners are hurt when the sex act is over, whether they know it or not. It is usually the woman who is hurt more because the limbic system in the female brain is larger than the limbic system in the male brain.

So, when a man and a woman decide to have sex “just for the fun of it”, something major is happening on levels far beyond the physical level—something they are unaware of and that will end up hurting them and hurting them for life, if they do not deal with the soul tie.

Why will they be hurt? Because God set a specific boundary for engaging in sex, and that boundary is marriage. Anyone who violates that boundary will be hurt, no doubt about it.

Why did God set marriage as the boundary for having sex? For a number of reasons, one of the chief of which is this very bonding power of the sexual act. When God instituted marriage, He intended that the soul tie be established only between the husband and the wife for their mutual emotional and psychological protection and blessing and for the emotional and psychological protection and blessing of the children who would come from their union.

In short, since the act of sex binds a man and a woman to each other emotionally and psychologically, God wanted to protect both the man and the woman from hurt by permitting the sexual act only in marriage and only between the husband and the wife. Marriage was intended to serve as a protection for both the husband and the wife from outside ungodly soul ties that would hurt them, their marriage, and the children who would come from that marriage.

But like everything else that God created for good and for His good purposes, Satan tries to pervert the sexual relationship for evil and for his evil purposes. This perversion occurs every time a person engages in sex outside of God’s boundaries for sex.

You see, God created the sex act in such a way that it will form a bond between the man and the woman having sex with each other whether the man or the woman want that bond to form or not. This bonding was God’s design and still is God’s design. The fact that people pervert God’s design by engaging in sex outside of marriage—outside of His boundaries for sex–does not negate the law of bonding that God created for the sexual act in the first place.

Moreover, having sex outside of marriage—outside of God’s boundaries for sex—results in opening the door to demonic activity in one’s life. When a person engages in sex outside of God’s boundaries, that person invites demons to enter his or her life during the illicit sexual act and any time afterward. Those demons remain until they are cast out through a process called deliverance ministry or exorcism.

We have seen that a soul tie created by sex outside of marriage is the unlawful tying together of two souls. This unlawful tying together causes spiritual bondage between the two souls for the rest of their lives unless the soul tie is broken through the power of Jesus Christ. Because of this spiritual bondage, the demonic spirits found in one person can transfer to the other person, and vice versa.

Every time you have sex with another person, your soul is tied to that other person’s soul.

So, if a girl has sex with five guys, her soul has been tied to at least five other souls. In most cases, the number of soul ties is even greater since each of the guys may have had multiple sex partners.

Do the math. This means that a girl who engages in premarital sex with one guy can be tied to hundreds of other souls without even knowing it. Yet, all of those other souls are affecting her every single day.

No wonder so many people are suffering so much emotional, psychological, and physical torment! They are in bondage to hundreds of other souls all of whom have demonic forces operating against them. And all of these demonic forces combined are operating against that one person who chose to have sex outside of marriage.

Consider this example. Let’s say a guy sleeps with a girl who is involved in the occult. Afterwards, he begins having nightmares and develops unreasonable fears. This guy, who, before sleeping with the girl was never afraid of anything, is now terrified of everything. Why? The reason is that the demons of the occult in the girl’s soul transferred to the guy’s soul when he slept with her.

Not a pretty picture, is it? Does it make you think twice about having sex outside of marriage?

Soul ties can also be caused by sexual abuse or unhealthful emotional relationships. In such cases, the same Jesus Christ who wants to deliver you from the sin of premarital or extramarital sex will deliver you from the soul ties created through sexual abuse.

Remember this: Sex outside of marriage will destroy your soul. This is the reason that God forbids it. He is not out to keep you from pleasure. He is out to keep you from pain!

In Psalm 23, Jesus promises to restore your soul. Why not let Him do so now?

If you have engaged in sex outside of marriage, there is hope for you. That hope is in Jesus Christ. Only He can free you from the bondage that occurred through your sin. And, do you know what? He wants to free you. You have only to ask Him. Just pray this simple prayer with me now:

Lord Jesus, I am guilty of sexual sin and of having formed ungodly soul ties. I confess my sin to You and ask You to forgive me and to cleanse me. Loose me from these ungodly soul ties as I renounce each one in the power of Your Name. From now on, I yield my life and my body totally to You. Make me what You created me to be. In Your Name I pray and receive by faith. Amen.

If you prayed this simple prayer, please write to me at drmaryann@maryanndiorio.com. I would like to send you a little booklet that will help you get started in your relationship with Jesus Christ. I also encourage you to get yourself a Bible and read it every day, starting in the Gospel of John, which is in the second half of the Bible. Finally, ask the Lord to lead you to the church of His choice for you where you can learn about Him and find fellowship and encouragement with other Christ-Followers.

I would also encourage you to seek out a mature Christ-Follower experienced in exorcism, also known as deliverance ministry, to pray for you. I have listed in the notes below a few resources that may be of help to you.

The Apostle Peter gives us an extremely important warning in his first letter to the scattered believers: “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5: 8 NLT).

One of Satan’s chief weapons for devouring us is by devouring our time. This demonic device is called distraction and is a very subtle trap of which we are often not aware until we fall into it.

What is distraction? The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines it as follows: “an object that directs one’s attention away from something else.” So, in our case, a demonic distraction is anything that directs our attention away from God.

So, how do we handle demonic distractions when they present themselves?

1. We must be on the alert for them. Unless we look out for instances of distraction, we won’t recognize this demonic device.

2. We must not be surprised by them. Demonic distractions will come. We can be certain of that. So when they do come, we should not be surprised nor dismayed.

3. We must attack them head-on. The question is how?

Here are some strategies I have used when facing demonic distractions:

1. I put God first in my life. I do this by starting and ending my day with Him, by spending time in prayer and worship as I begin my day, by asking His direction for the day, and by talking with Him throughout the day to make sure I am staying on track.

2. I remain sensitive to Holy Spirit’s leading. Sometimes what looks like a demonic distraction can really be the voice of God saying that He wants us to put aside what we are doing at the moment to minister to someone in need. Be careful, however, because Satan can try to confuse us in this area. Sometimes when an opportunity to minister presents itself, it is not from God but is, in reality, a demonic distraction. How can we know the difference? By staying close to Jesus and communing constantly with Him.

“A demonic distraction is anything that directs one’s attention away from God.”

Here is an an example of what I mean. When I first heard God’s call to write, I was involved in several ministries at my church that were all good ministries. But they were not the ministries that God had assigned to me. God had called me to write for Him. Yet, Satan tried to use those good ministries to keep me from my God-assigned ministry. When I realized what was happening, I resigned from those church ministries.

So, in order to handle demonic distractions, we must know what God wants us to do for Him and then focus on that. When we know our God-given priorities, we will recognize distractions that come against those priorities. And when we recognize demonic distractions, we will be able to resist them.

One final caution: Most demonic distractions come in the form of something good–like a ministry, a needy friend who depends on you to be pumped up, or a request to serve as director of an activity, etc., etc., etc. When you are sure of what God wants you to do, you won’t fall for what someone else other than God wants you to do.

My Prayer for You Today: Lord Jesus, as we seek You first, help us to recognize demonic distractions so that we will stay focused on You and on what You have called us to do. In Your Name we pray. So be it!

Now, it’s YOUR turn: Are you plagued with distractions that keep you from focusing on God? If so, how do you handle them?

We don’t hear much about demonic activity today, yet it is definitely going on, and at alarming rates. Perhaps you are a victim of it.

What is demonic activity? Simply put, demonic activity is the disruptive attempt of demonic spirits to divide and destroy you and everything that pertains to you.

Let’s take a look at some facts about demons:

1–Demons do exist. Contrary to much current teaching, demons are real. Scripture provides abundant evidence of their existence in passages such as Ezekiel 28:18, Matthew 25: 41, and Revelation 12: 4.

Demons are a category of evil spirits who do Satan’s bidding in the earth. They are his evil “lackeys” who carry out his dirty work in the earth. It is generally believed that demons are the fallen angels who followed Satan when he rebelled against God and who, as a result, fell from Heaven with Satan. Some scholars, however, believe that demons may be the product of the union of fallen angels with the daughters of men, as recounted in Genesis 6: 4.

Satan (aka, the Devil) now has his headquarters in the Second Heaven, which is immediately above our firmament and under the Third Heaven where God and His angels dwell.  From the Second Heaven, Satan and the fallen angels give orders to demons to wreak havoc in the earth and upon individuals, particularly those who follow Jesus Christ.

2–Demons have an agenda. That agenda is to carry out Satan’s instructions to destroy you, particularly if you are a follower of Jesus Christ. They do this in a variety of ways, but primarily through the tactic of “divide and conquer.” Their primary modus operandi is deception.

3–Demons have names. They are named according to their nature. For example, a spirit of anger is an evil spirit that tempts people to anger. A spirit of lust is an evil spirit that tempts people to lust. A lying spirit is an evil spirit that tempts people to lie.

4–Demons seek to inhabit physical bodies, whether human or animal. Because demons are spirits without bodies, they continually seek either to inhabit a physical body or to attach themselves to one in order to express themselves in the earth. For example, an evil spirit of murder is powerless unless it has a body through which to murder.

4–Demons are the lowest in rank and power in Satan’s kingdom. They do not strategize. That function falls to Satan and his higher-ranking evil spirits who reside in the Second Heaven. Demons simply carry out on earth the orders that are given them by Satan and the fallen angels.

5–Demons do not die. Because they are disembodied spirits, the same demons that were around thousands of years ago are still around today, tempting people to commit the same kinds of sins.

6–Demons operate through deception. Their goal is to keep their activity undercover so that people will fall into their traps. They present as good that which is evil.

7–Demons attack in a variety of ways. Here are a few of them:

  • Sickness
  • Mental Illness
  • Twisted Communication
  • Spreading False Doctrine
  • Discouragement

8–Demons enter a life in a variety of ways. Here are some of them:

  • Through rebellion against God-ordained authority;
  • Through an anti-Biblical worldview (e.g., secular humanism, globalism, Mother Earth philosophies)
  • Through participation in New Age practices (e.g., yoga, martial arts, Eastern mysticism and meditation, goddess-worship); through the occult (séances and other Satanic rituals), and witchcraft (e.g., Wicca, the New Paganism, horoscopes, Ouija boards);
  • Through disobedience of the Word of God;
  • Through neglect in prayer, worship, and the study of God’s Word.

No one is immune to demonic attack. But Jesus said this in John 10: 10: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.” The key to resisting demonic activity is Jesus Christ. When you are in Christ, you have all the authority and power you need to drive out demons from your life.

Remember this verse in 1 John 4: 4: “Greater is He Who is in you than he who is in the world.” HALLELUJAH!

How to Get Rid of Demons

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
________________________________________

If you are a born-again follower of Jesus Christ, you have His authority and His power to cast out demons.  If you are not a born-again follower of Jesus Christ, you do NOT have His authority and His power to cast out demons. If one who is not born again attempts the procedure below, he will be entering the spirit realm illegally and will get hurt.  Take serious heed to this warning!

So, with that very strong and serious caveat, let’s continue.

In my last post, I listed some indicators that you (or someone else) has a demon.  As I mentioned in that post, you could be either oppressed by a demon or possessed by a demon.  If you are a born-again Christian, you cannot be possessed by a demon; you can only be oppressed.

What is the difference?  To be oppressed means the demon has made inroads into your soul.  To be possessed means a demon has taken over your spirit. The spirit of a born-again follower of Jesus Christ (aka Yeshua) is under the complete control of Holy Spirit, so a demon cannot touch it. The spirit of one who has not accepted Christ as Savior and Lord is under the complete control of Satan. Hence, Satan can take over such a person’s spirit.

When it comes to the soul (mind, emotions, and will), however, a demon can harass both a born-again Christian and a person who has not been born again. Since this blog deals with matters of the heart (the heart being the soul), it is fitting that we discuss here how to get rid of demonic spirits that trouble the soul.

The first step is to determine if your problem is being caused by a demon. Go through the indicators I listed and answer each question as honestly as you can. If you answered yes to any question, it is possible your problem is being caused by a demonic spirit.  If so, do the following:

1) Determine what demonic spirit is troubling you.  You can do this first of all by asking Holy Spirit to reveal the evil spirit to you. You can also observe reactions to situations. If, for example, you find yourself flying off the handle at the slightest provocation, then it is likely you are in the grips of a spirit of anger.

2) If you are a Christian, you can simply speak to the demon and command it to leave you. If you are a non-Christian, you will need to go to a Christian to cast out the demon for you. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CAST OUT THE DEMON YOURSELF UNLESS YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN!  Unfortunately, not all Christians understand the authority and power they have through Christ. So if you go for help to a Christian who is clueless, find a Bible-believing pastor who will help you.

3) Demons are expelled through the mouth. Often, as they come out, they cause coughing, gagging, and, sometimes, vomiting. Do not be alarmed by this. It is simply a sign that the demon is leaving you.

4) After the demon leaves, ask God to fill those empty places with his love. If you are not a Christian, invite Jesus Christ into your life.

There is much more to be said on the topic of deliverance from demonic spirits. If you would like to know more, there are many resources out there to help you.  Here are a few good ones:

If you believe you need a demon (or more than one) cast out of you and you don’t know where to turn, please contact me at maryann@maryanndiorio.com. I will be glad to help you.

Questions: 1) Do you think you may have a demon? 2) Are you willing to get rid of it? 3) Do you need help getting rid of it?

Do You Have a Demon?

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23

Have you ever wondered if you have a demon? Or more than one? If so, read on.

Many people think that demons are figments of one’s imagination and nothing more. The truth is that demons exist and they are hard at work to destroy you.  One of their most powerful weapons is deception, especially the deception that they do not exist.

Let me begin by saying that if you are not a Christian, you are surely being influenced by demons. Scripture tells us in 2 Corinthians 4:4 that “Satan, the god of this evil world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe, so they are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News that is shining upon them. They don’t understand the message we preach about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.” So if you do not believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, and if you have not made Him the Lord of your life, then you are in bondage to demons.

But what if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, can you have a demon? The answer is yes, but you cannot be possessed by a demon as an unbeliever can.  Demons oppress and possess.  Unbelievers can be oppressed and possessed by a demon. Believers can only be oppressed by a demon.

How can you know if you are being oppressed or possessed by a demon?  Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

1) Have you ever been involved in the occult, including horoscopes, Ouija boards, tarot cards, etc.?

2) Have you ever used drugs or alcohol to escape problems?

3) Have you ever thought about or tried to kill yourself?

4) Have you been sexually abused through molestation, incest, or rape?

5) Do you have violent outbursts of uncontrollable anger?

6) Do you cut yourself or hurt yourself in any way (e.g., through starvation, overeating, binging)?

7) Do you hear voices in your head that tell you to do wrong things?

8) Are you always broke no matter how hard you work or how much you give to God’s work?

9) Do you commit immoral or illegal acts against your better judgment?

10) Have you ever made a pact with Satan to give you something in exchange for your life or your devotion to him?

If you answered affirmatively to one or more of these questions, you may have a demon that needs to be expelled.

In my next blog post, I will talk about the way to get rid of demons.  As a trained and experienced healing and deliverance minister, I have helped others be set free from demonic bondage.  I will share with you what you need to do so that you, too, can be set free once and for all.

Questions: 1) Do you think you may have a demon? 2) If so, how do you know? 3) Do you believe that Jesus Christ wants to deliver you from all demons?
