How to Deal with Regret

the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23

NOTE: My latest book, THE DAYSTAR DEVOTIONAL, has just been released. Please see details at the end of this post. Thanks!

Many, if not all, of us have at one time in our lives made a decision we now regret. For me, it was a job decision. For you, it might have been a marriage decision or a location decision or a decision that led you into sin. For the Apostle Paul, regret was rooted in his persecution and murder of Christians before he himself had an encounter with Christ. But, whatever the situation, God provides a sound way to deal with regret.

  1. Make a decision to put the regret behind you. While a decision may not immediately remove the emotion of regret, it will set you on the right path to eliminating your regret. Philippians 3: 13 says this: “Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
  2. Recognize that regret is a weapon Satan uses to rob you of hope. If Satan can get you into depression and despair, he has you. Why? Because without hope, you cannot have faith in the future (Hebrews 11: 1). The Word of God says this in 1 Peter 5: 8: “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” Don’t let Satan devour you with regret. Stay alert to his devices.
  3. Give your regret to the Lord. If your regret was caused by sin, then simply repent and move on. If your regret was caused by a poor decision, then trust that God will work that poor decision for your good. Romans 8: 28 says this: ” . . . all things work together for good to them that love God . . . .”

The best way to avoid regret is to remain closely connected with Holy Spirit and to seek His counsel and direction for every decision you make. As you follow Holy Spirit’s leading, you will make right decisions that will bring you the peace and joy He wants you to experience for the rest of your life.

How to Recognize and Survive Satanic Attacks

by Dr. MaryAnn Diorio

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
______________________________________

If you haven’t figured it out yet, Satan is out to get you. But, as a born-again follower of Jesus Christ, you have absolutely nothing to fear.

When dealing with the devil, we need to recognize his modus operandi (his M.O.) and his tactics. Here are some ways to do that:

Knight. Photo in vintage style

Take seriously the truth that Satan is out to destroy you. Taking this truth seriously means recognizing that Satan is your enemy, although a defeated one. So, while he has no power over us except what we give him, he is subtle and crafty and sly. Scripture says this in 1 Peter 5: 8: Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.  So, stay alert!

—Pray for wisdom and discernment. Satan’s chief weapon against us is deception. Our world today is full of deception. Jesus prophesied this would happen in the end times. The Bible says this in 1 Timothy 4: 1: Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.

In order to avoid deception–aka the counterfeit–we must know the Bible. A bank teller-in-training never touches counterfeit money. He handles only real money and gets to know the feel of it so well that he will instantly recognize a counterfeit bill.  So it is with us as Christ-Followers. We must get to know the Word so well that we will instantly recognize the lies of the enemy.

—Saturate yourself with the Word of God. Don’t just read the Bible; study it. Dig deep into its wisdom for living. Learn from its pages how Satan operates and how to be alert to his traps. Psalm 119: 105 says this: Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. Be sure to keep your lamp lit!

—Memorize Scripture. There is no better weapon against the attacks of Satan than the Word of God. When you memorize the Word, you are putting it deep into your spirit. When you face an attack from Satan, Holy Spirit will bring the Word to your remembrance so that you can use it to defuse Satan’s attack. In Psalm 119: 11 we read this: I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Keeping God’s Word in our hearts will protect us in the time of temptation.

—Fellowship with Other Believers. This is a critical aspect of dealing with Satanic attacks. Being in the company of other believers will strengthen you and provide you with wise counsel in the face of your attacks. Scripture says this in Hebrews 10: 25: And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

The poet John Donne said that no man is an island. No Christ-Follower can be an island either. We believers all need one another.

Review these points regularly so as to keep them fresh in your mind.  Most of all, practice them. God has provided all the weaponry we need to face and resist Satan. Put on your armor every day (Ephesians 6:11-18), and watch Satan flee in terror as you speak God’s Word against him.

NOW IT’S YOUR TURN: How do you handle Satanic attacks?  Please share your thoughts. We value them!

Submission: Blessing or Bane?

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
______________________________________

Submission. To many, it’s a dirty word. But to one who understands its true meaning, submission protects and brings blessings.

What, exactly, is submission? Simply put, submission can be defined as a willingness to function under the authority of another.

concept of religion. Silhouette of a man praying before a cross at sunset

Where does the concept of submission originate? It originates in the Godhead Itself, where the Son willingly submits to the Father. We see, therefore, that submission is inherent in God’s design for social order. Submission, in short, is a divine attribute of God, an attribute that He commands us to emulate and implement in our own lives.

Submission is at the core of healthful relationships. Children submit to parents. The wife submits to the husband who has been ordained by God as the head of the family. Employees submit to employers.Without such submission to authority, there would be chaos in our society.

Submission, however, has boundaries. For example, we must not submit in matters of sin.  Nor does submission mean being a doormat and allowing an authority figure to abuse us. On the contrary, submission must be a free act of the will and rendered out of respect for the office of the person in authority.

Notice I said the “office” of the person in authority, not necessarily the “person” in authority.  For example, my employer may be living an immoral life. In such a case, I do not have to respect his lifestyle, but I must respect the office he holds as my employer.

What should we do when the person in authority over us is making a decision that will be to our detriment? In such a case, we should appeal to the higher authority.  In the workplace, this may be a supervisor above one’s boss.  In the family, where the husband is the authority, a wife should appeal to God, the Higher Authority.

Satan has perpetrated a lie about submission, a lie that has led to rebellion and the breakdown of the family, the church, and society, in general. When we understand submission from God’s point of view, we will discover that it is a great gift for bringing order out of chaos.

Most of all, our Lord’s submission to the will of His Father resulted in eternal life for all of us.  Had Jesus refused to submit, we would be doomed to eternal damnation.  Let us thank Him for submitting His will to the will of the Father, and let us ask His Help in submitting our wills to those in authority over us.

How to Engage in Spiritual Warfare

Knowing Your Enemy

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
______________________________________

People often ask me why there is evil in the world. The answer is simple. There is evil in the world because there is a devil who is the god of this world. His name is Satan, and his single purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy you in any way he can.

Most people don’t like to talk about the devil. In fact, many people deny he even exists. But when we don’t know our enemy, and when we don’t know his tactics, we place ourselves in grave danger, not only spiritually, but also physically, mentally, and emotionally.

One Brave Roman soldier in field. Photo.

Scripture tells us that we are in a spiritual battle: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12). In order to fight this spiritual battle, we have been given spiritual weapons: For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4). Only by using these spiritual weapons will be we able to defeat the enemy.

What are some of these “weapons of our warfare?” We find these weapons listed in Ephesians 10: 18.  Let’s take a look:

1) The Belt of Truth. Scripture tells us in John 8:32 that the truth will set us free. So the first piece of armor that we need to don is Truth. Truth is a Person. Truth is Jesus Christ. The Word of God is Truth. As we saturate our spirits with the Word of God, we will be putting on the Belt of Truth to wrestle the enemy.

2) The Breastplate of Righteousness. In Roman times, soldiers wore a breastplate to protect their vital organs in the midst of battle. The Christian’s protection is the breastplate of righteousness. This weapon places us in Christ and places Christ in us. We are His righteousness because of His grace.

3) The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace.  Shoes are worn by the feet, and the feet are the foundation of our bodies. When peace is the foundation of our lives, we stand on a strong foundation. Jesus is our Peace. He is the Prince of Peace. His Gospel is a Gospel of Peace. What does this mean? It means that Jesus came to restore peace between man and the Father. We are bearers of that peace as we go about our daily lives.

4) The Shield of Faith.  Why do we need the shield of faith? Because the enemy continually throws fiery darts aimed to take us down. When we carry the shield of faith, we are prepared to deflect those fiery darts and send them back where they came from. How do we get the shield of faith? By hearing the Word of God. Romans 10:17 says this: Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Whatever you hear often enough, you will eventually believe. Make sure you are hearing the Word of God and not the word of the world.

5) The Helmet of Salvation. A helmet is worn to protect the head. The helmet of salvation protects the mind from demonic assault in the form of lies, false doctrines, and false philosophies. When we wear the Helmet of Salvation, we are protecting ourselves from false belief systems whose goal is to bring us down.

6) The Sword of the Spirit. This last weapon is the only weapon that puts us on the offense. All of the other weapons are defensive weapons. The Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. With it, we charge against the enemy and drive him out of our lives. We wield the Sword of the Spirit by speaking God’s Word into every situation that opposes His promises to us. For example, when sickness attacks, we use the Sword of the Spirit to drive it away.

Unless we put on all of the pieces of our God-given armor, we risk injury from the enemy. So be sure that when you get dressed each morning, the first thing you put on is the whole armor of God.

The Great Deception

Are You Being Deceived?

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
______________________________________

If you are sensitive to the Holy Spirit, you will know that a great pall of deception has covered the earth.  Indeed, I believe that Satan has unleashed a multitude of spirits of deception in a last-ditch attempt to capture souls for his dark kingdom.

A bold, bright gold "TRUTH" arises from a gray background consisting of the word "LIES" repeated many times a different depths.

Signs of this deception abound for all who have eyes to see and ears to hear:

1) Insanity has infiltrated the thinking of our culture. What is right is now considered wrong; what is wrong is now considered right.

2) Lawlessness abounds and few are doing anything to prevent it. Consider the New Year’s Eve assault on women in Germany.

3) Poltical correctness has generated cowardice because of fear of retribution. Our nation has lost its spine.

What are we to do? We are to advance the Kingdom of God with courage, boldness, and love. We are to take a stand for righteousness at every opportunity. We are to speak the truth in love, fearlessly and with great concern for the salvation of souls.

To do this, ask yourself these questions:

1) Am I being deceived in any way? Ask Holy Spirit to reveal to you any areas of your thinking in which you are being deceived. Then repent of the deception, renounce it, and replace it with the truth found in God’s Word.

2) Am I deepening my relationship with Jesus Christ? Only Jesus–Who is Truth–can keep us from deception. The closer you are to Jesus, the less you will be deceived.

3) Speak out when you see deception and enforce the truth. Remember the Lord’s words to Jeremiah: “Do not be afraid of anyone, for I will be with you to deliver you” (Jeremiah 1: 8).

Our culture is captive to Satan because it has believed its lies. Only the truth can set our culture free (John 8:32).
