How to Hold the Ground of Your Heart

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23

Your heart has ground, and it is up to you to hold it.

grass island and soil

The ground of your heart is its foundation. As a follower of Yeshua, the foundation of your heart is Christ.

Satan will continually try to shake the foundation of your heart. He can shake you, but he cannot shake Christ in you.

As you yield to Christ in you, Satan cannot touch you.

If you have not made Christ the foundation of your heart, do so now. Only in this way will you become immovable in the face of adversity.

What Is Love?

It's Not What You May Think

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
_______________________________________

According to Google, the top question asked in a Google search in 2014 was “What is love?” I found this statistic at once fascinating and troubling.

Fascinating because the human heart is basically the same throughout the world.  Troubling because most human hearts do not understand the true meaning of love.

Defining love is like defining God–difficult to explain but easy to describe. The reason? God is Love and Love is God. The two are exactly the same.  Hence, the difficulty in describing both.

But the nature of a being can be known by its attributes. And so it is with love. So, let’s look at the nature of love as described in the book that was written by Love itself–the Holy Bible.

In the first letter to the Corinthians, the Apostle Paul describes love as follows:

Love is patient. Love is kind. Love isn’t jealous. It doesn’t sing its own praises. It isn’t arrogant. It isn’t rude. It doesn’t think about itself. It isn’t irritable. It doesn’t keep track of wrongs. It isn’t happy when injustice is done, but it is happy with the truth. Love never stops being patient, never stops believing, never stops hoping, never gives up. Love never comes to an end (I Corinthians 13:4-8).

Wow! That’s a tall order, isn’t it? In light of the description of love above, how many of us truly love all the time?

None of us!

But when we receive Christ into our hearts, He loves through us. This is the Christian life: allowing Christ to express His love through us.

So, are you allowing Christ to express His love through you? To find out, ask yourself these questions:
  • Am I patient?
  • Am I kind?
  • Am I jealous?
  • Do I sing my own praises?
  • Am I arrogant?
  • Am I rude?
  • Am I obsessed with myself?
  • Am I irritable?
  • Do I keep track of wrongs done to me?
  • Am I happy when injustice wins out?
  • Am I happy when truth wins out?
  • Have I lost faith and stopped believing?
  • Have I lost hope?
  • Have I given up?

Did you notice that none of these questions has to do with the other person in the relationship but all have to do with you?  Why? Because love always goes first. Love always takes the initiative. Love never acts depending on what the other person does or does not do. Love acts based on the right thing to do.

Our world has confused emotional and sexual titillation with true love. This is the reason so many marriages end in divorce and so many families break apart.  True love, however, (also called agape love), is a spiritual love originating in God and demonstrated through the way we treat our neighbor no matter what the circumstances.

Only agape love will last when the going gets rough in a relationship. Only agape love will enable you to withstand and overcome.

Only agape love is what the world is truly looking for. And that kind of love is found only in the One Who is Love–the Lord Jesus Christ!

If you’re looking for love today, you are really looking for Jesus.  Go to Him and receive Him into your life. When you do, you will find True Love.

Running Your Race to Win

RUNNING YOUR RACE TO WIN

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
________________________________________

Run to successIf you are a follower of Yeshua, you are in a race.  Your goal is to win the race, and your prize is God’s call upward to Heaven in Christ (Philippians 3:14).  In other words, you are running toward the eternal prize of salvation in Jesus Christ.

How is your race going? Are you strong and steady, or slow and shaky? Are you going full speed ahead, or are you running out of steam? Are you close to giving up, or have you already stopped running?

If you’re finding that your race seems overwhelming, here are a few tips to help you catch a second wind:

1) Ask Holy Spirit to fill you again. And again. And again. And again. To follow Jesus, we need a continual infilling of Holy Spirit’s power.  One drink from His well is not enough.  A runner needs water while running.  We need the living water of the Holy Spirit to replenish us while running our race.

2) Take time to worship the Lord. Worshiping God through singing, dancing, and quiet meditation will get your spiritual muscles working again. Worship is one of the best ways to renew your strength so that you can keep on running your race.

3) Pray in tongues. Scripture says that praying in tongues (also called praying in the spirit) builds up the one who is speaking in tongues (I Corinthians 14:4).  Speaking in tongues recharges your spiritual battery, giving it renewed power to continue your race.

4) Stay focused on your goal. Satan will send distractions in the form of trials and temptations to get you off track. Just when things are going well in your race, he will place an obstacle across your path.  Expect these distractions and prepare for them through prayer and fasting. Let nothing keep you from finishing your race.

5) Rely on the Lord to help you.  Our Lord is invested in your race. He is right there with you, encouraging you to finish.  Keep your eyes on Him.  If you do, you will finish your race and receive the crown of life that God promises to those who endure to the end (Matthew 24:13).

Are you running your race with Jesus as your goal? To help you do so, read YOU WERE MADE FOR GREATNESS! and discover how to compete for the only prize that matters: Jesus Christ!  You Were made for Greatness

The Audience of One

Writer, for whom are you writing? The answer to that question will determine the content of your writing, the purpose of your writing, and the destiny of your writing.

As believers, our paradigm of purpose centers totally and only on Jesus Christ. We write for Him, about Him, in Him, and through Him. Every word that flows through our fingers–whether via the pen or the keyboard–must exalt Him and Him alone. He is the Beginning, the End, and Everything in between.

Too often we are tempted to write for our own glory, but His way and His will are that we write for His glory. He alone is worthy of all glory, all honor, and all praise.  For out of Him comes our writing gift, and to Him that gift must be consecrated. Without Him, we have no writing gift.  With Him, our writing gift is sanctified and given meaning and influence.

So be filled with joy at the great privilege that is ours. The privilege of writing for King Jesus and for His Kingdom.

When all is said and done, we write for an Audience of One.

(Attitude) Writing with God

In ! Corinthians 3:9, Scripture tells us that we are co-laborers with Christ. As such, we cooperate with Him in accomplishing His work in the earth.

Those of us who are writers cooperate with Christ by writing what He wants us to write when He wants us to write it and how He wants us to write it.  In other words, we submit our artistic will to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Writing in partnership with God requires the following character traits:

1) Attentiveness to His voice. In order to write with God, we must first be able to hear His voice. It is as God speaks to us that we know what He wants us to write for Him.

2) Obedience to His voice. Once we hear God’s voice, we must then obey it. Hearing without doing leads to deception (James 1:22).

3) Surrender to His will. God doesn’t follow market trends. God sets His own trends. As we surrender our will to HIs will, we will meet with writing success regardless of the world’s market trends.

There is no experience quite like that of discerning Holy Spirit hovering over your shoulder as you write, whispering His words of life to your spirit, processing those words through your mind, and then recording those words through your fingertips.  For the writer who follows Christ, this is what it means to write with God.
