Is Your Heart Divided?

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23

Should I Stay or Go Two Way Road Signs Make DecisionWould you consider yourself indecisive? If so, read on.  If not, read on anyway because your heart may still be divided.

Another name for a divided heart is double-mindedness. In other words, a person with a divided heart is of two minds and cannot settle on one.

What is a divided heart? A divided heart is a heart that rides the fence between two belief systems, two points of view, or two paths to take. A divided heart is a heart that wavers between right and wrong, between belief and doubt.  A divided heart is a heart that is unfocused, confused, and filled with unbelief.

Unbelief?  Yes, unbelief.

Scripture tells us that a person with a divided heart should not expect to receive anything from the Lord (James 1:7). Why? Because that person cannot decide whether or not to believe what God says.

Moreover, “a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways” (James 1:8). Not a complimentary thing, is it? To be unstable is to stand on a shaky foundation, one that will eventually crumble.

Because a divided heart is a heart of unbelief, it is also an evil heart.  God says this in Hebrews 3:12: “Take heed, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.”  When we have a divided heart, we are living in unbelief, and to live in unbelief is to have an evil heart.

If you heart has been divided, repent and ask Jesus to restore it to wholeness. Spend time in prayer and reading God’s Word. The Word of God will mend your divided heart and make it stable, steady, and strong.

Did God Really Say . . . ?

Deception. It is all around us. Perhaps never in the history of the world has there been such pervasive deception. With the Internet and other means of high-technology communication at our disposal today, deception can spread like wildfire around the globe in a matter of minutes, if not seconds.

To deceive means “to mislead by a false appearance or statement” ( Scripture reveals that Satan is the arch–deceiver. He is called “a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). His goal is to “steal, kill, and destroy” (John 10:10). In order to accomplish his goal, he uses deception.

From the first lie Satan spoke to our first parent Eve to the lies he speaks today, Satan’s tactics have not changed. He always asks the same question, “Did God really say?” (Genesis 3:1).  In so doing, he attempts to plant a seed of doubt in our hearts as to the character of God. If Satan can get us to doubt God’s goodness, then Satan has us in the palm of his wicked hand.

What situation are you facing today where you are doubting God’s goodness and love for you? Are you sick and doubting that God wants to heal you? Are you broke and doubting that God wants to get you out of debt? Are you in a difficult marriage and thinking the only way out is divorce?

Whatever your situation, know this: GOD IS GOOD!  He gives only good gifts. Nothing evil in your life has come from God. All evil comes from Satan.

Determine in your heart that you will never believe Satan’s lie. You will never question God’s goodness. You will look to His Word and find the answer for your every need.

God promises us only good. Choose to believe what He says. When you do, Satan’s power of deception will be driven out by Truth.

The Two Trees

God placed two trees in the Garden of Eden. One was the Tree of Life; the other, the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. God forbade Adam and Eve to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil because eating from that tree would bring death.

We all know the story. Adam and Eve chose not to take God at His Word. So, they ate of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and the fruit they ate produced after its own kind. From that moment, our first parents experienced evil and learned that knowing both good and evil makes for a very difficult life, if only by virtue of knowing the huge contrast, let alone experiencing it.

Imagine not having the knowledge of evil. What would that be like? Well, just look at a little child. He has no knowledge of evil until he experiences it. He is innocent. This is the reason that Jesus said we must become like little children to  enter the Kingdom of Heaven. We must be innocent of evil.

Being innocent of evil means eating from the Tree of Life. Jesus is the Tree of Life. As we accept Him and abide in Him, we will experience life as God originally intended it to be.  Innocent and pure. Holy and joy-filled.
