Do You Dread the Christmas Season?

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23

Over the years, I’ve met many people who dread the Christmas season. For them it is a time of painful memories, difficult encounters, and unresolved grief. Do you share this perspective of Christmas?

If so, let me encourage you.

When Christmas brings pain, it is usually the result of unresolved emotions that are festering beneath the surface. The Christmas season serves as the trigger for these unresolved emotions because we intuitively know that the Christmas season should be a time of joy, peace, and love. When it is not, we are reminded more intensely that something is wrong.

In counseling others for many years, I have discovered that, in almost every case, the root cause of Christmas anguish is unforgiveness. Christmas pain is caused by the memory of past hurts or past losses. When we do not forgive those who hurt us, or when we do not yield the pain of our losses to Christ, we suffer at Christmas time. In fact, we suffer all the time, but more intensely at Christmas.

If you are hurting this Christmas season, examine your heart. Are you harboring unforgiveness toward someone who wronged you? Perhaps that someone is God or even yourself. Are you holding on to the memory of a lost loved one–whether deceased or living–in an unhealthful way by refusing to complete the grief process? Both of these scenarios will rob you of the joy, peace, and love that Jesus wants you to experience not only at Christmas time but all the time.

NOTE: A few years ago, I wrote an article about unforgiveness that may help you. If you are interested, here is the link: http://tinyurl.com/plc2hln

Are You Paying Attention to the Signs of the Times?

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
______________________________________

Signs serve as signals. They tell us where something is located, or they alert us to an event that is about to take place.

Office clock about to show midnight - few seconds to New Year

Jesus spoke of signs that would signal His second coming. Those signs are all around us today and include an increasing number of earthquakes, simultaneous wars all over the globe, and disease epidemics that are becoming more and more resistant to medication. He also predicted that there would be those who kill Christians while claiming that to do so is to serve God.  Isn’t that what ISIS is doing today?

Two of the most significant signs of Christ’s return would be an increase in lawlessness, persecution, and deception that would lead to global catastrophe. We are certainly seeing that now. The world has gone crazy, with senseless killings, violent riots, and the persecution of Christians and Jews. If that were not bad enough, most of humanity is being deceived into believing lies, such as universalism, atheism, relativism, homosexuality, transgenderism, abortion, and a host of other -isms that are in direct conflict with the Truth as found in the Sacred Scriptures.

So, what does this all mean for you? It means that if you have not been paying attention to the signs of the times, you need to start doing so. Recognize that the enemy behind ISIS and all the evil in the world is Satan himself and all of his cohorts.  Satan hates Jesus Christ and any person who follows Christ.

Yet, only by following Jesus Christ can you escape the even worse horrors that are coming upon the world when the AntiChrist assumes power.  If you have not been born again, don’t wait another moment.  Click here to read my article on how to live forever.

Holding on to Hope in a Hopeless World

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23

To be without hope is the worst place to be.

Hope is the key to faith. Without hope, there can be no faith for future good.

Scripture calls hope “the anchor of our souls” (Hebrews 6:19).  For faith to ignite, our souls must be anchored in hope.

But what hope?

There is only one hope that will anchor our souls. That hope is Jesus Christ.

“In Him we live, and move, and have our being” (Acts 17:28).

Is your hope anchored in Jesus Christ?

How NOT to Fear Terrorism

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23

There is a place of peace where one can be free from fear.  That place is in the shelter of the Almighty.

Under God’s protective wings, we can find rest no matter what is going on around us.

Newborn baby and his father's hand - care and safety concept

Like a newborn safe in His Father’s care, so are we safe in the care of our Heavenly Father.

One can kill the body without our permission, but one can never touch the soul without our permission. It is in the soul that one is truly free.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High . . . will not fear the terror of the night” (Psalm 91: 1, 5 ESV).

Are you dwelling in the shelter of the Most High God?

How to Meditate the Right Way

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
______________________________________

There is a type of meditation that exalts the self, and there is a type of meditation that exalts God.

The New Ager engages in the former.  The follower of Jesus Christ engages in the latter.

Self-centered meditation leads to deception and death.  God-centered meditation leads to truth and life.

To meditate means to “chew upon.”  What you chew upon, you digest.  What you digest, you become.

The New Ager chews upon doctrines of demons. The follower of jesus Christ chews upon the Word of God.

Choose your spiritual food wisely.  Your entire well-being and eternal destiny depend upon it.
