WHEN GOD GOT PERSONAL

by Dr. MaryAnn Diorio

“Guard your heart above all else,
for it determines the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4: 23

MARYANN’S NOTE: At Holy Spirit’s direction, I wil be posting a few personal experience stories over the next few weeks. These experiences happened to me over the past several years and reveal God’s supernatural presence and power in our lives. I trust that these stories will bless you, encourage you, and reveal to you how much God loves you and is involved in your life as well.

WHEN GOD GOT PERSONAL
by MaryAnn Diorio, PhD, MFA

“She looks pale,” the pediatrician said as he examined my two-month-old daughter. “I want to run some blood tests on her.”

The year was 1977. The month was November. My husband, our firstborn daughter Lia, and I had recently celebrated the joyous arrival of our second child. All seemed well in our world.

At the doctor’s words, my heart clutched. “What do you think is the problem?”

His eyes reflected concern. “I’m not sure just yet. Let’s wait to see what the blood tests show.”

I swallowed hard and nodded. I don’t know what’s happening, Lord, but whatever it is, I will trust You.

I had been a follower of Jesus Christ for seven years. During that time, I had gotten to know Jesus through reading His Word, through prayer, and through fellowship with other believers. But I didn’t want only to know Jesus vicariously through the experiences of others. I wanted to sense His pulse. To see Him in action.

To feel His heartbeat.

As I read the Gospels, I noticed that people experienced Jesus. They had life-changing encounters with Him that affected their lives in personal ways. Encounters that touched them physically, emotionally, and psychologically. Encounters that changed the course of their lives.

I wanted to be a character in the Gospels. I wanted to be able to say that Jesus was not only the Savior of the world but that He was the Savior of my world.

The pediatrician turned toward me. “I’m ordering a test at the children’s hospital in the city. You will not be able to feed Gina for twelve hours prior to the test since it requires that she be fasting.”

My heart sank. My baby nursed every two hours. To deprive her of food for an entire twelve hours seemed impossible.

I mumbled a thank you and left the doctor’s office with my baby cradled in my arms and with both of us cradled in the arms of Jesus.

On the drive home, I cried out to God in anguish. “Lord, I can’t bear the thought of my Gina screaming in hunger throughout the night. You have to do something!”

The test was scheduled for a couple of days later. The night before the test, Gina fell asleep at 7:00pm. For the first time in her young life, she slept all through the night!

But not only did she sleep all through the night, she was also still asleep when my husband and I put her in the car to go to the hospital. She slept during the entire one-hour trip to the hospital. She went into the test asleep, and she awakened only after the test was over at 9:00am. Fourteen hours of straight sleep! And fourteen hours with no food. At that point, I had a hungry baby on my hands.

My heart overflowed with thanksgiving as I gave glory to God for this miracle.

My husband and I returned home with our baby to await the test results. When they arrived shortly thereafter, they revealed the presence of an incurable lymph gland disease with a prognosis of a life span that would most likely not exceed nine years.

Fear clamped its sharp claws around my mind and whispered its ugly lies. “Your daughter is going to die.”

Braced with the Word of God, I attacked that spirit of fear with the vengeance of an angry mama bear protecting her cub from danger. “Oh, no, Satan!” My words shot through the air. “You are a liar and the father of lies. My God says that my Gina was healed by the stripes of Jesus. And what He says is true. So I silence you, foul spirit of fear, in the Name of Jesus.”

As my circumstantial world spun in a violent downward spiral, my spirit resisted and soared to grab hold of God’s promise of healing. I could not let my baby die. I would not let my baby die. In His Word, God said she was redeemed from the curse. I could stake my child’s life on that truth.

In obedience to our Lord’s command in Mark 16 to lay hands on the sick, and in accordance with His promise in the same chapter that if I did so, the sick would recover, my husband and I laid hands on our precious baby daughter and commanded the sickness to leave her body.

A pole shift occurred in the spirit realm as my Gina’s life shifted to a new axis, the axis of Truth. I fully expected her to be healed. The thought of her not being healed had no permission to enter my mind.

A few days after laying hands on my baby, I sat in my family room worshipping the Lord while Gina slept in her cradle beside me. As I worshipped and thanked Jesus for healing my baby, I felt compelled to turn on the television. I recognized the Holy Spirit’s prompting and obeyed it.

At the very instant I turned on the TV, Dr. Pat Robertson of the 700 Club was praying. He looked up at the camera and said, “There is a baby in the TV viewing audience with a lymph gland disorder, and God is healing her now.” Instantly, a sensation of warm oil poured over me, covering the top of my head and flowing down over my entire body. I jumped out of my chair and shouted, “That’s my Gina! That’s my Gina!”

I called my husband. A physician himself, he wisely advised that we obtain medical confirmation of Gina’s healing. When I took her back to the pediatrician, he ran repeat tests and could find no sign whatsoever of disease. The word of knowledge Dr. Robertson had brought forth proved true. My Gina was healed!

And I had experienced Jesus in a tangible, personal way. He had shown me His heart.

And His heart was to heal.

Today, my Gina is a beautiful, healthy 39-year-old young woman serving the Lord with all of her heart. She is a living testimony to God’s healing power and to the truth of His Word.

Most of all, she is a living testimony to the God Who proved to me that He wants to bring salvation not only to the entire world, but especially to my personal world.

And now, on to this week’s post! 🙂

_______________________________________________________________

Welcome to Week 4, the final week in our discussion on freedom!

During the past three weeks, we have explored the Keys of the Kingdom of God that belong to every born-again follower of Jesus Christ. Today we conclude our study on the Keys of the Kingdom by exploring some reasons that we Christ-Followers are not seeing more of the Kingdom’s promises being manifested in our lives. On the contrary, we are still experiencing many of Satan’s curses, such as sickness, lack, and strife.

Kingdom - Gold text on black background - 3D rendered royalty free stock picture. This image can be used for an online website banner ad or a print postcard.

While I certainly don’t claim to have all the answers, I have learned a few things about the Kingdom during my 46 years of following the Lord. Here are a few insights about the Kingdom that I would like to share with you:

1–God’s Kingdom promises are true, no matter what. Scripture tells us that God is not a man who lies (Numbers 23: 19). He says what He means, and He means what He says. When God makes a promise to us, He cannot and will not renegue on that promise. To do so would violate His nature and His character, and He would then not be God. So, because of God’s perfect, flawless character, we can stake our lives on what He says every single time.

One of Satan’s chief strategies is to try to get us to doubt what God has said. This was the strategy he used with Eve, and this is the strategy Satan still uses today. Remember that Satan is a liar and the father of lies (John 8: 44).

2) The Keys of the Kingdom always work when we work them. In order for the Keys of the Kingdom to work, they have to be used–and used correctly. The Keys of the Kingdom work by faith. It is faith that pleases God, and it is faith that is required to use the Keys of the Kingdom correctly.

Contrary to popular belief among Christians, God does not respond to our pleading, our whining, or our tears. He responds to our faith–and only to our faith. Faith is the bridge between the Kingdom of God and the Earth. Like a magnet, our faith draws from the Kingdom of God whatever we need to fulfill our destiny here on Earth.

3–Circumstances do not equal doctrine.  Far too often in the Church today, I come across believers who base their theology on their circumstances rather than on the Word of God. In other words, if their circumstances do not align with what God has said in His Word, then they question the Word, not themselves.

For example, God says He heals ALL of our diseases (Psalm 103: 3). So, if I pray for healing but it does not come, then I question God. I might even blame Him. Oh, I may not blame Him outrightly, but I say things like, “Healing is not for today,” or “God doesn’t want to heal everyone,” or “God is sovereign and can heal whomever He wants to heal.” These excuses–and that is exactly what they are: excuses–sound so good. Yet, they are all lies from the pit of hell. But worse than that, by believing these lies we are calling God a liar. This is blasphemy.

For me to say that healing is not for today is to say that God lied when He said He heals all of our diseases (Psalm 103: 3)

For me to say that God made me sick is to say that God lied when He said, “I am the Lord Who heals you” (Exodus 15: 26).

For me to say that I don’t have enough money to pay my bills is to say that God lied when He promised to give me the ability to produce wealth so that He can establish His covenant (Deuteronomy 8: 18).

The truth is this: If I do not receive my healing or my provision–or any other of God’s promises–the problem is not with God nor with His Word; the problem is with me. It is my responsibility, therefore, to find out what my problem is. Usually, it is unbelief. Sometimes it is a lack of knowledge (Hosea 6: 2). Always, the problem is on my end.

I know this is a hard pill to swallow, but it is the truth. And only the truth will set us free (John 8: 32).

You see, when God created man and woman, He called them to rule and reign over the earth. The Earth is our domain, and our domain is under our dominion. God made us stewards of the Earth, so the Earth is in our charge (Genesis 1: 28). Through the death and resurrection of Christ, God has given us everything we need to rule and reign in the Earth. In other words, He has given us the Keys to the Kingdom, and it is our job and our responsibility to enforce the laws of the Kingdom of God in the Earth. We do this by using the Keys of the Kingdom in faith. We do this by resisting and thwarting every attempt of Satan to remain an illegal squatter in the domain God has entrusted to our care and management.

By giving us the Keys of the Kingdom, our Lord has provided us with everything we will ever need to live out our destinies here in the earth. So, take the Keys of the Kingdom that Jesus has given you, and use them with all of the authority and power that backs you up as a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Now, it’s YOUR turn: Have you been using your circumstances to determine your theology? If so, are you willing to take God at His Word? Please leave your response in the Comment Box below. Thank you!

Love. The word conjures up all sorts of emotions. To some, those emotions are positive. To others, they are negative. How we respond to the word love depends less on our experiences with love and more on our understanding of the real meaning of love.

Today, we use the word love quite indiscriminately and, I might add, rather flippantly. We speak of loving ice cream, loving a car, loving a style of house, loving a person, and loving God–all in the same breath. No wonder we are confused when it comes to giving and receiving genuine love.

Bible verse God is love in red with hearts

Genuine love begins and ends in God. Scripture reveals to us that God is Love (1 John 4: 8). The Word does not say that God has love; it says that God IS Love. The very nature, or essence, of God is love. If we want to understand love, we must seek to understand God’s nature.

Why is this so important to our well-being in this life? Here are some thoughts for you to ponder:

1–We are made in God’s image. God’s nature is to love. Because He made us in His image, He designed our nature to love. But sin marred, corrupted, and perverted our original nature so that the nature of humanity, in its unregenerate state, is to hate. Moreover, when we do not believe that we are made in God’s image (as evolution teaches), we can never experience the well-being that comes from knowing God loves us.

2–To know God is to know Love. Since God and Love are one and the same, to know one is to know the other. An apprentice becomes an expert at a trade by spending time with his master, observing how his master works, and then applying what he has learned from his master. We become experts at loving by spending time with God, observing how He works, and then applying what we have learned from Him.

3–Love is the ultimate healer. Every physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual disease responds positively to love. We’ve all heard stories of healing wrought by the power of love. Love is essential to our well-being in every area of our lives.

So, how do we learn to love? And how do we become experts at loving?

Love Himself has given us the plan of action for loving. It is found in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8. Let’s take a look at what love in action looks like:

  • Love is patient.
  • Love is kind.
  • Love is not jealous.
  • Love is not boastful.
  • Love is not proud.
  • Love is not rude.
  • Love does not demand its own way.
  • Love is not irritable.
  • Love keeps no record of being wronged.
  • Love does not rejoice about injustice. Instead, love rejoices whenever the truth wins out.
  • Love never gives up.
  • Love never loses faith.
  • Love is always hopeful.
  • Love endures through every circumstance.
  • Love will last forever.

How do you square up with God’s description of love? If you’re like me, you have to admit that, at times, you fall short.

But don’t get discouraged. We are all learning to love. Our life on this earth is a course in learning how to love as Jesus loves. We have not yet finished the course, but we are covering more ground every day.

So, as we move into the new year, let’s make it our goal to learn to love as Jesus loves. I believe that when we stand before our Lord, He will judge us not by all that we accomplished for Him but by how well we have loved.

To help you further in learning to love as Jesus loves, I invite you to listen to my very brief podcast titled “Have You Learned to Love?” (See the link below). It is the first podcast in my new weekly podcast series titled A Moment with MaryAnn. I trust it will bless you. If it does, please pass it on. Thanks!

Miracles Are Still Happening: Claim Yours

by Dr. MaryAnn Diorio

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
______________________________________

I experienced a miracle this morning! Another one of many I have experienced in my life. And I want to give God all the glory by sharing with you what Jesus did for me today. The reason I am sharing is to glorify Him and to show you that you, too, can have your own miracle from God.

miracles do happen, 3D rendering, street signs

As I was making a grocery list this morning, I began to see flashes of light in my left eye. It looked like a ragged-edged raindrop and appeared every time I blinked. I immediately began to pray and to declare God’s Word over my eye. Then I contacted some fellow believers to pray, and I called a sister in Christ who prayed over my eye and spoke God’s Word over it.  The flashes immediately stopped and are completely gone. Hallelujah! Glory to God!

God’s Word is true! He says in 1 Peter 2: 24 that we were healed by the stripes of Jesus. This means that we are already healed! We are healed NOW!

Are you facing an illness today, perhaps a serious one? If so, let me declare over you in the Name of Jesus that you are healed!

God has healed me of many things during my lifetime. He healed me of breast cancer 21 years ago. I was also healed of acid reflux disorder. God healed my younger daughter of an incurable illness at infancy. She was not supposed to live into adulthood.  Today she is a grown woman in her thirties who loves God with all of her heart, soul, strength, and mind and is serving Him faithfully.  A friend of mine was healed of Lyme disease and a liver disorder when we prayed together.  Another friend of mine was healed of persistent stomach pain. I could go on and on.

God has also healed me emotionally of trauma, childhood abuse, and perfectionism. In Psalm 23, He promises to restore our souls. He did so for me, and He will do the same for you.

Know this: God wants you well! If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you have a covenant of healing with Him. This means that healing is yours because you belong to Christ Who paid for your healing at Calvary. You have only to believe.

Begin declaring God’s Word over your situation. Call yourself healed and whole, because that is what God calls you. Receive with thanksgiving the healing that God offers you. Jesus Christ paid the ultimate price so that you could be healed and whole.

If you are interested in receiving a list of Scripture verses on healing, please send me an email address. I will be happy to send them to you.

NOW IT’S YOUR TURN: What miracle do you need from God? How may I pray for you? Please leave a comment in the box below. Thanks!

How to Heal Your Broken Heart

Four Simple Steps

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
______________________________________

The first step in healing your broken heart is to realize you cannot heal it by yourself.

Clip-art of broken heart being mended by thread File: #6424414 | Author: Susanyoyo

Only the One Who made your heart can truly heal your heart.

Even more wonderful good news is that the One Who made your heart WANTS to fix your heart when it breaks.

Here are four steps to take to receive a healing touch from Jesus:

1-Tell Him you have a broken heart. You do this for your sake, not His. He already knows. To solve a problem, you must first admit you have a problem.

2-Admit the emotions caused by your broken heart.  Anger? Hatred? Fear? Jealousy? Repent of those that have caused you to sin.

3-Give Jesus your painful emotions.

4-Receive His healing in exchange for your pain.

It’s as simple–and profound–as that.
