Hello and Happy Day! This is Dr. MaryAnn Diorio, Novelist and Life Coach, welcoming you to another episode of Winning with the Word. Today is Monday, June 1, 2020. Today’s Podcast is Episode #22 in Series 2020 and is titled “Are You Thinking Straight?”

You might be wondering, What a strange question to ask? Am I thinking straight? Yet the truth is that my question is one of the most important questions you may ever be asked in your life. Your answer to that question will determine whether your life turns out well or turns out badly.

Okay, Dr. MaryAnn. Aren’t you getting a little melodramatic here? After all, how I think is how I think. What difference does it make how I think, if the thoughts are my own?

The fact that you made that statement and asked that question is proof that you are not thinking straight.

So, before we go any farther, let’s define what is meant by “thinking straight.” Thinking straight means thinking in line with Truth. But then we have to ask another question: What is Truth? You may remember that a Roman governor of Judea, named Pontius Pilate, asked that same question of Jesus just before Jesus was crucified (John 18: 38).

The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is Truth. He Himself said of Himself in John 14: 6, “I am the Truth.” Jesus is the Word of God, and so is the Bible. This makes Jesus and the Bible one and the same. So, logically speaking then, if Jesus is Truth, and if Jesus and the Bible are one and the same, then the Bible is Truth.

So, if the Bible is Truth, and if thinking straight means thinking in line with Truth, then thinking straight means thinking in line with the Bible.

Let me ask you another question. Are you thinking in line with the Bible? Do you even know what’s in the Bible? If you don’t, then how can you think in line with Truth?

We must know Truth in order to think in line with Truth.

Truth is a Person. Truth is Jesus Christ. If we don’t know Jesus Christ, Who is Truth, then we cannot live in line with Truth.

So, the first order of business is to get to know Jesus Christ. How? By accepting Him as your Savior and Lord. When you do, you will be born again, and you will begin to comprehend Truth.

We live in a world in which most of the information we receive is controlled by people who do not know Truth. People who do not know the Bible. People who do not know Jesus Christ. Indeed, people who are blatantly opposed to Jesus Christ and, therefore, to Truth.

The information we receive from such people is contrary to Truth, yet most of the public believes their lies. When we believe a lie, we will suffer the consequences of believing a lie.

To believe a lie is to put ourselves in bondage. To believe the Truth is to experience freedom. Jesus Himself said, “You shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free.”

We are fast losing many of our freedoms today. Have you asked yourself why? The reason is that, as a culture, we have chosen to embrace the lie instead of embracing the Truth.

We will be free to the degree that we embrace the Truth.

Do you want to be free? Then embrace the Truth. Embrace Jesus Christ. He is waiting to set you free.

Pray this simple prayer with me:

Lord Jesus, I come to You now, just as I am. I want to know Truth. I want to know You so that I can be free. I receive You now as my Savior and Lord. Make of me what You created me to be. In Your Name I pray. Amen.

If you prayed this simple prayer, please write to me at drmaryann@maryanndiorio.com. I would like to send you a little booklet that will help you get started in your walk with Christ. I also encourage you to get yourself a Bible and read it every single day. The Bible is God’s love letter to you, His manual for your life and for He will help you to come to Him and to grow in Him and to become all that He created you to be. In the Bible, God reveals Who He is, and He instructs you how to live.

Finally, ask the Lord to lead you to the church of His choice for you where you can learn about Him and have fellowship and encouragement with other Christ-Followers.

For those of you who may not know, I write fiction about many of the issues I deal with in this blog and podcast. How to Live in a World Gone Crazy

Strategies for Overcoming

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23

______________________________________

We don’t have to be rocket scientists to recognize that something has gone drastically wrong with our world. To those who are unaware, the terror and evil around us could incite fear. But for those of us who follow Jesus, we know exactly what is going on.

At the root of every evil in the world is sin. But, of course, the concept of sin is no longer recognized as valid by our culture. So how can we blame sin for our troubles?

Riot protest fist raised in the air. Male clenched fist on dark grunge background.

The truth is that sin–especially the root sin of rebellion–is the cause of our crazy world situation. We no longer want to follow God’s ways. We want to follow our own ways. In fact, we don’t even acknowledge that God exists. When we deny that God exists, we are left to our own devices, left to be our own gods. This spells BIG TROUBLE!

From the days of Adam and Eve, the world has lived in rebellion. We are more aware of it now because of our advanced communication technology that enables us to know instantaneously that an incident has occurred on the other side of the globe.

So how can we live in a world gone crazy? Here are some proven steps you can take starting now:

1-Decide you will obey God at all costs. This means even at the cost of your life. It may come to that for those of us who follow Jesus.

2-Decide you will not live in fear. God has not given us a spirit of fear. Followers of Jesus walk in power, in love, and in soundness of mind (2 Timothy 1:7), truths that those who reject Jesus cannot comprehend.

3-Decide you will walk in love. Love is the greatest weapon of all in defeating evil. Love will overcome fear, drive out darkness, and prevail in the end. Love will never fail (I Corinthians 13: 8).

Jesus foretold that there would be perilous times. We are living in them. How exciting to be a part of our Lord’s great plan during these last days before His return! May we be ever faithful to Him in proclaiming His Word. He promised that it will not return void, but it will accomplish God’s purposes in the earth (Isaiah 55: 11).

The Great Deception

Are You Being Deceived?

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
______________________________________

If you are sensitive to the Holy Spirit, you will know that a great pall of deception has covered the earth.  Indeed, I believe that Satan has unleashed a multitude of spirits of deception in a last-ditch attempt to capture souls for his dark kingdom.

A bold, bright gold "TRUTH" arises from a gray background consisting of the word "LIES" repeated many times a different depths.

Signs of this deception abound for all who have eyes to see and ears to hear:

1) Insanity has infiltrated the thinking of our culture. What is right is now considered wrong; what is wrong is now considered right.

2) Lawlessness abounds and few are doing anything to prevent it. Consider the New Year’s Eve assault on women in Germany.

3) Poltical correctness has generated cowardice because of fear of retribution. Our nation has lost its spine.

What are we to do? We are to advance the Kingdom of God with courage, boldness, and love. We are to take a stand for righteousness at every opportunity. We are to speak the truth in love, fearlessly and with great concern for the salvation of souls.

To do this, ask yourself these questions:

1) Am I being deceived in any way? Ask Holy Spirit to reveal to you any areas of your thinking in which you are being deceived. Then repent of the deception, renounce it, and replace it with the truth found in God’s Word.

2) Am I deepening my relationship with Jesus Christ? Only Jesus–Who is Truth–can keep us from deception. The closer you are to Jesus, the less you will be deceived.

3) Speak out when you see deception and enforce the truth. Remember the Lord’s words to Jeremiah: “Do not be afraid of anyone, for I will be with you to deliver you” (Jeremiah 1: 8).

Our culture is captive to Satan because it has believed its lies. Only the truth can set our culture free (John 8:32).

Are You Afraid of the Future?

ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE FUTURE?

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
________________________________________

Terrified woman. Terrified young woman in formalwear looking at camera and biting nails while standing isolated on whiteFEAR. It’s all around us. It penetrates and saturates our culture as water does a sponge. We read it in the headlines every morning. We hear it on the news every night.

We feel it in our bones, in our muscles, and in our hearts.

Yes. In our hearts.

But, it doesn’t have to be this way.  Throughout the Scriptures, God continually commands us not to fear.  Interesting, isn’t it, that He gives us a command?  A command from God implies that we are able to obey it.

So, why are we afraid? I would propose that we are afraid because we do not know God.

You see, God is love, and in Him there is never anything to fear.  Scripture tells us that “perfect love drives out fear” (I John 4:18).  God, Who is Perfect Love, will drive out fear every time.  But here is the clincher:  We must trust Him and believe Him when He says that there is nothing to fear for those of us who know Him.

Bottom line, we get rid of fear by getting to know God intimately.  Here is His promise to us found in Isaiah 26:3: ” You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”  This is the antidote to fear: Keeping our minds fixed on God.  And why do we keep our minds fixed on God? Because we trust in Him. And why do we trust Him? Because He is God and perfectly trustworthy!

Are you struggling with fear today? Then turn your eyes toward Jesus and keep looking into His beautiful face. Keep your thoughts fixed on Him. As you do, His peace will drive out every fear.

If you would like to learn how to overcome fear, check out my book YOU WERE MADE FOR GREATNESS! You Were made for Greatness
