Hello and Happy Day! This is Dr. MaryAnn Diorio, novelist and life coach, welcoming you to another episode of Winning with the Word. Today is Monday, February 28, 2022, and this is Episode #9 of Series 2022. This episode is titled “Distraction: Satan’s Static.”
A common complaint I’ve heard from fellow believers recently is that they are fighting more temptations to distraction than ever before. Perhaps you can relate.
You might be wondering if the complaint is real or imagined. I would suggest that it is real. Very real.
So, why is this happening? Why is Satan tempting believers with so much distraction?
The answer is as close as the Word of God. In fact, as close as Revelation 12: 12: “But terror will come on the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great anger, knowing that he has little time.”
You see, my friend, the devil knows that he doesn’t have much time left to attempt to thwart God’s plan before the Lord Jesus Christ Himself returns to cast him into the lake of fire forever.
So, Satan is trying to make the most of the short time he has left.
And one of his chief tools is distraction.
Distraction is the attempt to derail one from one’s purpose, one’s primary goal, one’s top priority. The top priority of the Christ-Follower is to preach the Gospel and to fulfill the Great Commission found in Mark chapter 16. If we are not spending the majority of our time doing these things, we are being distracted.
Distraction is like static. It interrupts God’s broadcasting system. You see, God is continually speaking to us. His Holy Spirit is continually directing us. Yet, if we allow ourselves to be distracted, we will not hear the Holy Spirit and, as a result, we will not fulfill God’s call on our lives.
Satan’s Strategy
So, how does Satan distract us?
Here are a few of his tactics:
1. By luring us to fritter away our time on social media, cell phones, video games, and email.
2. By annoying us with irritating problems, like computer issues, broken appliances, car problems, especially while we are trying to study the Bible or pray.
3. By troubling us with relationship problems, like misunderstandings, offenses, miscommunications, especially when we are doing our best to obey God’s Word.
These are only a few of the many ways Satan attempts to distract us from our primary purpose of preaching the Gospel and making disciples of all nations.
What about you? Are you being distracted? If so, step back and re-evaluate your priorities. Are you putting God first, or have you slipped into relegating Him to second place? Are you spending the bulk of your time on things that don’t ultimately matter, or are you spending most of your time deepening your relationship with Jesus Christ? Are you more focused on the things of this world than on the things of Heaven?
It’s time we stop allowing ourselves to be distracted and start becoming single-minded on the things of God. Like Jesus, we must not look to the right or to the left. We must remain focused on being about the Father’s business in these last days. His business is to bring the lost into His family. And He is depending on us to do our part.
If you are among those who have not yet accepted Jesus Christ into your life, I urge you to do so now. Just pray this simple prayer of repentance with me:
Lord Jesus, I come to You, confessing my sin, repenting of it, and asking You to forgive me. I need You in my life. So I now receive You as my Savior and my Lord. Thank You for saving me, healing me, and restoring me. In Your Name I pray. Amen.
If you sincerely prayed this prayer, welcome to God’s family! Please write down today’s date. It is your spiritual birthday. And please write to me at drmaryann@maryanndiorio.com or at drmaryann@celebrationlifecoaching.com. I would like to send you a free PDF booklet, titled After You’re Born Again. This booklet will help you get started in your walk with Jesus.
I also encourage you to get yourself a Bible and read it every single day. The Bible is God’s love letter to you, His manual for your life. In the Bible, God reveals Who He is, and He teaches you how to live.
Finally, ask the Lord to lead you to the church of His choice for you where you can learn about Him and have fellowship and encouragement with other Christ-Followers. It is critically important in these last days to fellowship with other believers who are mature in Christ and who can guide you as you grow in Him.
