I recently had occasion to minister to a person struggling with a feeling of being abandoned by God. Due to some tragic circumstances that had occurred in his life, he felt that God did not love him. Despite the Scriptural proof that I gave this young man that God did, indeed, love him, the young man could not get past his feelings of being unloved.

This young man’s decision to make his feelings the final arbiter of truth represents a very dangerous phenomenon at work in our culture today. It is a lie that goes way back to the Greeks, and even before them. It is the lie at the root of secular humanism that denies the existence of absolute truth and makes relativism the final authority of one’s life.

Consider what havoc this lie has wrought in our society. It has led to abortion, homosexuality, transgenderism, and euthaniasia. It is the new expression of Cartesian philosophy. Descartes is famous for saying, “I think; therefore, I am.” Today’s culture says, “I feel; therefore, I am.”

So, if I am a woman but “feel” like a man, then I can simply change my gender.  Or vice versa.

Carried to its logical conclusion, this deception becomes ridiculous. As my husband wisely asked, “What would happen if I were to put on a black robe, walk into the Supreme Court, and announce that I am a Supreme Court Justice just because I feel like one?” We all know what would happen!

Yet, that is exactly what is going on when a man decides he is a woman simply because he feels like one, or a woman decides she is a man simply because she feels like one. As a culture, we have denied the existence of absolute truth, and we are now seeing the fruit of unrestrained relativism which makes personal feelings the final determinant of one’s actions and the final determinant of what is true.

We are NOT what we feel. Feelings lie. They fluctuate, sometimes moment by moment. They change from day to day. Yet, our society has elevated feelings above reason. In so doing, we have built our lives on sinking sand.

Feelings are NOT the arbiter of truth. God’s Word alone is the arbiter of truth. Unless and until we return to God’s Word and make it the foundation of our lives, we will fall farther and farther into the abyss of absurdity and what the Bible calls “the depraved mind” (Romans 1: 28).

Now, it’s YOUR turn: Are you ready for the Lord’s return? If not, please click here.  If you are ready for the Lord’s return, please warn others that they need to get ready and tell them how.

Are You Paying Attention to the Signs of the Times?

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
______________________________________

Signs serve as signals. They tell us where something is located, or they alert us to an event that is about to take place.

Office clock about to show midnight - few seconds to New Year

Jesus spoke of signs that would signal His second coming. Those signs are all around us today and include an increasing number of earthquakes, simultaneous wars all over the globe, and disease epidemics that are becoming more and more resistant to medication. He also predicted that there would be those who kill Christians while claiming that to do so is to serve God.  Isn’t that what ISIS is doing today?

Two of the most significant signs of Christ’s return would be an increase in lawlessness, persecution, and deception that would lead to global catastrophe. We are certainly seeing that now. The world has gone crazy, with senseless killings, violent riots, and the persecution of Christians and Jews. If that were not bad enough, most of humanity is being deceived into believing lies, such as universalism, atheism, relativism, homosexuality, transgenderism, abortion, and a host of other -isms that are in direct conflict with the Truth as found in the Sacred Scriptures.

So, what does this all mean for you? It means that if you have not been paying attention to the signs of the times, you need to start doing so. Recognize that the enemy behind ISIS and all the evil in the world is Satan himself and all of his cohorts.  Satan hates Jesus Christ and any person who follows Christ.

Yet, only by following Jesus Christ can you escape the even worse horrors that are coming upon the world when the AntiChrist assumes power.  If you have not been born again, don’t wait another moment.  Click here to read my article on how to live forever.

Special Blog Post: My Thoughts on the SCOTUS Decision on Gay Marriage

A loving warning to those who would defy God

Statement by Dr. MaryAnn Diorio on Recent Supreme Court Decision on Gay Marriage

While the recent Supreme Court decision on gay marriage focused on marriage between two men or two women, I would contend that the real issue underlying this abominable decision goes far beyond gay and lesbian marriage.

Truth Text Red Black BurstPhoto Source: Fotolia File: #84769189 | Author: ileezhun

The issue is not homosexuality. Homosexuality is one sin among many, although Scripture does state that sexual sins differ in that they are sins against our own bodies (I Corinthians 6:18). The issue is that our culture has strayed from a Biblical worldview.

A Biblical worldview is based on Absolute Truth, and Absolute Truth is defined as what God says in His Word. God has determined the standard for what is right and what is wrong. No man can change that standard without suffering serious negative consequences.

But, in our culture, we have attempted to replace God’s standard of right and wrong with our own. This is called humanism, aka relativism. Today, the standard for determining right and wrong is public opinion, the majority rule.

But God’s standard is true whether I believe it or not. I may believe that the law of gravity does not apply to me, but if I jump off a roof, I will go down, not up. Likewise, God’s laws cannot change regardless of what I believe about them.

God has declared that homosexuality is wrong and against the nature of man. Note what He says in His Word: “… do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” Many kinds of sin are included in this warning.

We can flaunt God all we want, but He also says this: “Don’t be misled; remember that you can’t ignore God and get away with it: a man will always reap just the kind of crop he sows!” (Galatians 6:7).

I plead with those of you who want to hold fast to ideas that are against God’s Word to reconsider. Man is not the one who decides what is true or not true. That has already been decided and determined by God and is found in the Holy Scriptures. No one can arbitrarily change what is true or not true. We may try to do so, but we will end up destroying ourselves in the process.

As we have abandoned God and His Holy Scriptures, we have created a culture of people who are lost, afraid, and without purpose. You may not believe that the Bible is the unerring Word of God, but what if it is? I happen to believe it is and base my entire life on it. God’s Word has never failed to prove true for me in the 45 years during which I have followed Jesus Christ. God’s Word will always prove true, no matter how much one may oppose it or disagree with it.

Remember: we are not God. He is!

Are You Thinking Straight?

Why Thinking Straight Will Set You Free

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
_______________________________________

Do you think straight? What does that even mean, and how can you tell if you do?

Let me explain by telling you a little story.  During the 45 years of our marriage, my wonderful husband has hung many pictures for me. Each time he hangs a picture, he asks me if it looks straight. Usually, I say that the picture is leaning to the left or to the right. Usually, my husband says it looks straight to him.

Bubble level work tool at true, also suggesting honesty through colloquial title expression

So, in order to determine if the picture is straight or crooked, he gets out his trusty level. The level never lies. It always tells the truth. If the level shows that the picture is straight, then it is straight, no matter what it looks like to our eyes.

The level is our standard of truth.

Well, God has provided a “level” to serve as the standard of truth for living our lives. That “level” is called the Bible, and it was given to us by God to tell us if we are thinking straight or not. If our way of thinking lines up with what the Bible says, then we are thinking straight. If our way of thinking does not line up with what the Bible says, then we are not thinking straight.

Now, a picture that hangs crooked on my wall may not do much more than annoy me, but a way of thinking that hangs crooked in my mind could destroy me.

For example, if I think that I will go up if I jump off a roof, that kind of crooked thinking could harm me as I soon hit the ground.  I will have discovered too late that jumping off a roof will cause me to go down, not up.

There are some kinds of crooked thinking that are even more serious than falling off a roof.  Take, for example, my thinking about Jesus Christ. If I don’t believe that He is the Savior of the world, and if I don’t accept Him as such, I will spend eternity in Hell, separated from Him. Why? Because He says that “whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life . . . . ” (John 3:36).

Bottom line, any thinking that contradicts God’s thinking is crooked thinking.  Anything that agrees with God’s thinking is straight thinking.

So, are you thinking straight? To find out, just ask yourself if your thinking agrees with God’s thinking.  How can you know? There is only one way. You have to get to know how God thinks by reading and studying His Word.

The Apostle Paul wrote this in Romans 12:2: “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think (emphasis mine). Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” We change the way we think by studying, memorizing, and meditating on the Word of God.

Too many Christians today are thinking like the world.  They have adopted the cultural consensus and, consequently, are not thinking straight. This is the reason we hear of Christians having sex outside of marriage, agreeing with the Supreme Court’s recent decision on gay marriage, and condoning abortion. This is all crooked thinking!

I urge you today to start thinking straight. Not only does your success in this life depend on it, but, most importantly, your eternal destiny hangs on it.
