I like to quip that I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth: I was born with a pen in my hand.

But I didn’t discover that pen until I was 30 years old. Once I discovered it, I moved fully into my calling, which is to write stories for King Jesus.

What about you? What gift were you born with? Do you know what it is?

God has created each of us with a purpose. Our talent is a sign of that purpose. God gives us a talent (or more than one) to lead us in the direction of His purpose. As we discover that talent and use it for His glory, God’s purpose is fulfilled not only in each of our lives but also in the earth.

Here are some ways to discover your talent:

1–What ability comes fairly easily to you?

2–What activity gives you great joy in the doing of it?

3–What activity elicits feedback that what you are doing is a blessing to others?

Unfortunately, many people never fulfill their purpose. Don’t be one of them.

Next to losing one’s soul, the worst tragedy in life is to die without singing your song.

My Prayer for You Today: “May you discover your song and sing it with great joy, for God’s glory and for the building of His Kingdom!”

Now, it’s YOUR turn: Are you singing the song God gave you to sing? If not, why not? Please leave your valued comment in the box below.  If you need help to discover your song, contact me at info@maryanndiorio.com. I am a Certified Life Coach and have been helping people discover and sing their song for almost 20 years. I would be happy to help you as well. :). For more information, click here.

FROM THE DOLDRUMS TO THE DIVINE

by MaryAnn Diorio, PhD

“Guard your heart above all else,
for it determines the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4: 23

MARYANN’S NOTE: At Holy Spirit’s direction, I wil be posting a few personal experience stories over the next few weeks. These experiences happened to me over the past several years and reveal God’s supernatural presence and power in our lives. I trust that these stories will bless you, encourage you, and reveal to you how much God loves you and is involved in your life as well.

FROM THE DOLDRUMS TO THE DIVINE
by MaryAnn Diorio, PhD

It’s the same old, same old,” my coaching client complained. “Things never seem to change.”

I took a deep breath and whispered a prayer for wisdom. “Okay, what do you want to change and why?” I asked.

“I want to get off this treadmill and start doing something meaningful with my life.”

“And do you know what that is?”

“I have no idea.”

Neither did I. But at least I knew where to start to find out. Having gone through the same scenario myself many years earlier, I could relate to his feelings of depression, despondency, and discouragement. After all, it was no fun being on this earth and not knowing why.  Nor was it any fun living every day without a sense of purpose.

My mind drifted back to an earlier time when I was in my client’s shoes.

Stuck. Stifled.

And spiritless.

Yes. Without spirit. Dying on the inside.

I was what one would call “down in the dumps.” A victim of the doldrums.

Dismayed about what was happening—or not happening—in my life.

An Internet dictionary defines “doldrums” as “a state or a period of inactivity, stagnation, or depression.” Of the three descriptive nouns, stagnation fit my situation best. I was certainly not inactive. On the contrary, I was spinning my wheels in multiple directions and heading nowhere fast.

Nor was I depressed. I still retained some hope in the future. But the problem was, I didn’t know what direction to take into that future. What if I took the wrong fork in the road? What if I went down the wrong path?

What if I missed my destiny?

I knew I had to do something because the years were passing, and passing quickly. I didn’t want to reach the end of my life and have regrets about wasting my life.

Mind you, I wasn’t a Christian at this point, but I was religious. Very religious. Too religious for my own good. I was bound up in legalistic rituals of spirituality that, as I look back, kept me a prisoner of my wrong thinking and blinded me to the truth.

My mind returned to the coaching session with my client. “Have you ever heard about the concept of being born again?”

He cleared his throat. “What does that have to do with anything?”

I read between the lines of his pain. “It has everything to do with the reason you are here on this earth.”

I could feel him getting uneasy on the other end of the phone. “Look, I’m not interested in religion. I’m interested in results.”

I smiled inwardly. “I totally understand. I’m not talking about religion. I’m talking about relationship. What you are looking for is a relationship that will give meaning to your life. In that relationship, you will find your purpose.”

“But I’ve already got a girlfriend.”

I smiled inwardly again. “I’m sure your girlfriend adds meaning to your life, but what if you didn’t have her? Would your life still have meaning?”

Several moments of silence ensued. I thought he was about to ask for a refund, when he finally spoke up.

“Are you telling me that what I’m looking for is Jesus?” The tone of his voice exuded incredulity and derision.

“That’s exactly what I’m telling you.” I could picture him shaking his head.

“You can’t be serious.”

“I have never been more serious.”

As the battle for his soul waged in the spirit realm, I prayed silently that God would open his spiritual eyes and spiritual ears to the truth.

“I don’t know,” he said. “It sounds too easy. Too simplistic.”

“It is not simplistic. It is simple, but not easy. Following Jesus will cost you everything.”

His curiosity was piqued. “What do you mean?”

I mean it will cost you your life—not necessarily your physical life, although that may happen, but it will certainly cost you the life of your will.”

“I don’t get it.”

Having been in the same place, I empathized with him. “Following Jesus means submitting your will to His will.”

He remained silent for a long moment. “I’m not sure I can do that.”

“Are you saying you can’t or you won’t?”

“Aren’t they the same thing?”

“Not at all.”

He cleared his throat again. “So, what’s the difference?”

“The difference is the want-to. If you want to submit your will to God’s will, God will enable you to do so.”

He hesitated and then back-pedaled. “I don’t think this Jesus stuff is for me.”

My heart sank just a bit. “No one can force you to accept Jesus Christ. Not even your life coach.” I chuckled. “But I do hope you will think about our conversation today. Your purpose in life is wrapped up in Jesus Christ. I pray that one day you will understand that.”

I ended the session and said goodbye, wondering if the story with this particular client had ended.

But, I’m happy to say that the story did not end there. Surprisingly, my client continued on with me. After several more months of coaching, he eventually did see the light and was born again. Today, he has found his purpose as a worship leader in his home church, and he has never been happier and more fulfilled.

By the grace of God, he discovered his destiny.

In surrendering to Jesus Christ, he went from the doldrums to the divine.

As for me, I am so thankful to have played a small part in his magnanimous discovery.

But it might never have happened if I myself had not chosen, many years earlier, to go from the doldrums to the divine by accepting Jesus Christ into my own life.

And that has made all the difference!

What about you? Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord? If not, click here to learn how.

Do you know that you are running a race? I can hear you now: “Yes, I’m running a rat race, and I’m exhausted.”

LOL!  No, dear friend. You are running a race whose course has been set by God the Father. It is a personal race that defines the purpose and path for your life here on this earth. It is not a rat race. It is a life race—your unique life race—and the Father wants you to finish it.

But Satan does not!

In fact, Satan will do everything he can to keep you from running your race and, if not from running it, from finishing it. Why? Because Satan hates God and he hates you because you belong to God.

And it is this very truth that you belong to God that makes it so important that you finish your race.

Finish Line
So, a few critical questions arise:

  1. What is my personal race?
  2. How do I run it?
  3. How can I make sure I finish it?

Today, we’re going to answer these three questions.

First Question: What is my personal race?

Your personal race is the day-to-day life you live, with all of its annoyances, setbacks, trials, blessings, and joys. It is the specific purpose for which God created you. It is the specific location where He has placed you. It is the specific people with whom He has surrounded you.

Are you complaining about your life race? Are you ungrateful for the life God has given you? Are you discontented with your life and comparing it so someone else’s?  If so, you are not running your personal race to win. You are setting up obstacles in your own race that will keep you from finishing it well.

Second Question: How do I run my race?

How you run your race will make all the difference as to whether or not you finish your race. I have learned that the best place to run one’s race is not from a position of striving but from a position of rest.

You may ask, “How can I run my race while I’m resting?” Good question! Here is the answer: The position of rest is not a position of inaction. It is a position of trusting God completely for the outcome of your life and of your race while you run it.

Third Question: How can I make sure I finish my race? Here are four tips:

—1. Decide now that you will finish your race. Another way of saying this is: EMBRACE YOUR RACE!  Commitment to your race is half the battle.

—2. Pray daily for God’s help in running your race. You are not running your race alone. God is always at your side, encouraging you to keep on keeping on—straight to the finish line. Acknowledge that you need His strength to run and trust Him to help you finish your race.

_________________________________________________________________

The position of rest is not a position of inaction. It is a position of trusting God completely for the outcome of your life and of your race.
_________________________________________________________________

—3. Enjoy your race! God means for us to enjoy our lives. Despite the many setbacks that will surely try to hinder your race, keep your eye on the finish line. Seasoned runners know that running a race is not easy. Sometimes you grow weary and need a second wind. But that second wind can give you the final push to finish your race. If you need a second wind, ask Holy Spirit to blow His wind of love and strength upon you today. Let His wind lift you up as you focus your eyes on the finish line.

—4. Keep your eye on the finish line. What is the finish line? The finish line of your race is Jesus Christ! (Philippians 3: 14). He is your Prize and the reason you are running your race. When you keep your eyes on Him, every obstacle eventually falls away as you press forward toward Him.

Now, it’s YOUR turn: Are you running our race in a manner pleasing to God? What obstacles have you encountered during your race? Please leave a comment in the box below.
