The Only Surefire Way to Break the Chain of Addiction

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23

Addiction is slavery to an idol in one’s life.

Addiction occurs when one looks to a false god instead of the one true God to supply one’s need. Addiction surrenders to false pleasure despite adverse consequences.

Chain breaking

There are many types of addiction: alcohol, drugs, sex, food, computer, sports, money.  Any idol in one’s life is an addiction.

Certain programs can help one manage addiction.  But ultimately, only Jesus Christ can set one completely free.  Why? Because getting free from addiction requires supernatural power.

Scripture says this in John 8:36: “So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.”  Let the supernatural power of the Son of God set you free.  Only then will you be truly free.

How to Turn Your Test into Your Testimony

Pursuing Your Victory

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
______________________________________

Like any good parent, our loving Heavenly Father wants His children to mature.  The process of maturity requires testing.

test icon

A test is a measurement of your spiritual growth.  A test is not a punishment.  It is an opportunity to fulfill our call as followers of Yeshua to enforce God’s Kingdom on the earth.

When a test comes–as it surely will–our response to the test will determine whether or not we pass the test. If we respond in the Spirit, we will pass the test. If we respond in the flesh, we will fail the test.

In every test lies the seed of victory and the seed of failure.  What seed sprouts depends on how we respond to the test.

Respond in such a way that your test will become your testimony of God’s power manifested in your life.

How to Be Pure in an Impure World

A pure heart is a powerful heart. It has not been polluted with those things that weaken the heart.

File: #52527164 | Author: Hassan Reine

Your heart will be powerful to the degree that it is pure.

Sin weakens the heart. Sin is missing the mark of the prize of God’s high calling in Christ Jesus. Sin is anything and everything that separates you from God.

If you want to be truly empowered, live purely.

Enforcing the Kingdom of God Right Where You Are

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
_______________________________________

The greatest battle you will ever wage as a Christian is the battle in your mind. In fact, that is the only battle you will ever wage. All battles, whether physical or spiritual, are won or lost in the the mind. But the good news is that you enter that battle with the victory already in hand because of what Jesus Christ did for you through His death and resurrection.

Knight. Photo in vintage style

Your job as a follower of Jesus Christ is not to win the battle against Satan; Jesus Christ already did that. Your job is to enforce the victory that Christ has already won against Satan.

Your job is not to conquer Satan. Your job is to take back what he has stolen from you by enforcing Kingdom law.

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord, you are His ambassador in the earth realm.  As such, you possess all the power and authority you will ever need to rule in this earth.  Wasn’t that God’s mandate to Adam and Eve from the very beginning–to take dominion over the earth and to subdue it (Genesis 1:28)?  This does not mean that we are to take dominion over the people of the earth but over the demonic spirits that rule the earth. We are also to take dominion over the animals, fish, and natural resources of the earth and use them for God’s glory. In short, we are to bring God’s Kingdom into the earth.

Jesus Himself taught us to pray to the Father like this: “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is done in Heaven” (Matthew 6:10).  Well, God’s mandate still stands, but it can be obeyed only by the born-again believer.  Only followers of Christ have His power and authority dwelling within them to enforce the laws of His heavenly kingdom in our earthly one.

So, how do we enforce God’s Kingdom in the earth? By believing and speaking His Word into every situation that requires our doing so.

The Word of God is the instrument of enforcement.  Scripture calls it the “sword of the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:17).  We are commanded by God to wield that sword in our quest to rout the enemy from our earthly domain. And the way we wield the sword of the Spirit is by proclaiming it aloud.

So, the next time Satan tries to bully you in an attempt to make you think you are defeated, turn on him with the sword of the Spirit.  Speak it aloud to him, just as Jesus did when Satan tempted him in the desert.  Three times Jesus repeated, “It is written. It is written. It is written.”  Eventually, Satan fled at the speaking of the Word of God.

Your job as a follower of Jesus Christ is not to win the battle against Satan; Jesus Christ already did that. Your job is to enforce the victory that Christ has already won against Satan.

Satan must flee at the Word of God. Satan is powerless before the Word of God. As we keep our eyes focused on the Word and not on the circumstances of our lives, and as we believe that what God says in His Word is true, the Word will produce the fruit of its promise.

Every single time!

The Power of Purity

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines
the course of your life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23
________________________________________

fotolia_59452426It takes only a tiny drop of poison to contaminate a glass of water.  A tiny drop seems so inconsequential, yet it has the power to render a simple glass of water potentially fatal.

The same is true of our hearts. The tiniest deviation from God’s Word can contaminate our hearts in ways that have very serious consequences, some even irreversible.

Let’s take a “little white lie,” for instance.  We rationalize it as follows:

  • It’s only a little lie.
  • It won’t hurt anyone.
  • It’s really a way of being polite.

But is it, really?

One of the reasons I love children so much  is that they are blunt. One night, as I sang to my five-year-old granddaughter at bedtime, she said, “Nonna, you don’t sing like Mommy. I like her voice better.”  I laughed and praised God for my granddaughter’s honesty. It was refreshing. It was wholesome.

It was pure.

Purity is the key to a meaningful life.  David the Psalmist prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10).  My pastor has coined a great saying: “A clean heart brings clear vision.”  We can’t have clear direction for our lives if our hearts are not pure.

In purity lies the power. The power of God to serve God.  Jesus said, “Be ye holy as I am holy.” What does this mean?

To be holy is to be without contamination. It is to be sound. The root of the word “holy” means “whole” in the sense of lacking nothing pertaining to well-being.  The Word of God tells us in 2 Peter 1:2 that our Lord has given us everything we need to live a holy life through our knowledge of Jesus Christ. The better we know Jesus, the more whole–or holy–we will be. A holy life–a pure life–derives from intimacy with Jesus Christ. He is the Vine; we are the branches.

As we cling to the Vine, we will grow in purity. As we grow in purity, we will grow in power.

And a heart full of God’s power is a heart that can change the world.
